Full of entertaining characters, wry humour, and even a dash of romance.

Colourful Poetry

In Colouful Poetry... every poem has a story to tell just like every colour has a mood to drive.PREFACE:It may be expected that this book is unified on a single theme like the rainbow, a symbol of freedom and unity. Instead, this book divides each poem and they all stand individually representing lots of ideas, a ridicule to the rainbow, thereby separating the colours and making them stand out in brightness with their own cheerful warmth. Every poem has a story to tell just like every colour has a mood to drive.~ Wilson the Poet ‘Mandela’

In the grasp of greed and self-preservation, the paths of three individuals cross causing each to confront their own desperate and uncertain lives.Compelled by the wreckage of his life, Redding had little choice other than pursuing the cello painting. The artwork had been seen in the old city of Suzhou, China, but the sighting was hardly definitive. With Lin Ming as his guide, he planned to scour every square inch of the ancient city, but on that first day when he ran into Joran, he knew the painting would cost him more than blood and sweat. A long way from his New York City art gallery, Joran’s streetwise way of handling business had proven equally effective in China. He didn’t care who got hurt as long as it put the painting in his hands. It was worth millions and he knew people who would pay for such an exclusive possession. Although Redding’s interest in Lin Ming hadn’t waned, she regretted her involvement. She had suffered through one horrid marriage and never intended to lie with another man again. In the grasp of greed and self-preservation, the paths of three individuals cross in a search for an acclaimed painting, causing each to confront their own desperate and uncertain lives.

Christ’s Entry Into Brussels

It is announced that Jesus Christ is to visit Belgium in a few weeks time, on its national day, the 21st of July. Coincidentally, our narrator's mother dies and his marriage ends. Feeling very low, and fluctuating between resentment, irony and cynicism, he reports on the events and on the behaviour of his compatriots. The authorities squabble about how to receive Christ. They find an eleven-year-old girl in the asylum seekers' centre to act as Christ's Aramaic interpreter (Arabic, Aramaic, it's practically the same, right?). Neighbours resolve ancient feuds and communities gather together to confess and forgive en masse, no matter the depravity of the crime. As the date draws near, the whole city brightens up - there's never been a nicer time to have a Second Coming. This new novel by Dimitri Verhulst resembles a quirky pamphlet and a moral fable. The narrator considers himself part of the 'lost generation', which has no illusions about the state of the world - both in absurd Belgium and in the distressingly imperfect world beyond. He puts a finger on the symptomatic fever blisters of contemporary society, of the so-called 'malcontent mass'. With his bizarre imaginings, harsh criticisms and stylistic verve, he exposes an embarrassing reality, which often makes you laugh conspiratorially, and then cry.
