Noonday Sun: a Fanfiction Book

Events after Breaking Dawn. Edward had said in Breaking Dawn that the Volturi would come after the Cullens. Aro uses Alice's weakness against her. Conclusion matches the beginning of Twilight where Genesis is quoted regarding the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.Ydnas is a novel of ideas in the form of fantasy fiction. In the vast and decadent city of Kondrastibar, the social Balance has been preserved by Theo-Anarchy for centuries. Countless churches and gods form the organizing principles for a decentralized society composed of thousands of largely independent neighborhoods. As the book begins, Kor, who runs an orphanage, rescues a young girl, Ydnas, from a slave auction. She brings Ydnas to the orphanage, where they are assisted by a priest from the local Church of Irony. But it is soon evident that Ydnas is no ordinary girl, and the immensely powerful and ambitious Lord of Evil suspects she may be the Girl that the Prophecies predict will upset the old Balance. The reader follows the adventures of many different characters, including Amazons, a crime lord, soul harvesters, and a Kelosian monk whose religion requires him to steal from the rich to give to the poor. Through its multiple plot lines, the novel explores ideas about religion, society, nonviolence, and money before coming to its stunning conclusion.

No One Writes Back

Communication—or the lack thereof—is the subject of this sly update of the picaresque. No One Writes Back is the story of a young man who leaves home with only his blind dog, an MP3 player, and a book, traveling aimlessly for three years, from motel to motel, meeting people on the road. Rather than learn the names of his fellow travelers—or invent nicknames for them—he assigns them numbers. There's 239, for example, who once dreamed of being a poet, but who now only reads her poems to a friend in a coma; there's 109, who rides trains endlessly because of a broken heart; and 32, who's already decided to commit suicide. The narrator writes letters to these men and women in the hope that he can console them in their various miseries, as well as keep a record of his own experiences: "A letter is like a journal entry for me, except that it gets sent to other people." No one writes back, of course, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some hope that...

The First Reginald Bretnor Megapack

The late Reginald Bretnor (1911-1992) was never a prolific writer—he wrote only a handful of books and about 100 short stories [and more than 100 short-short “Feghoots” under the Grendel Briarton pseudonym]—over a 45-year writing career. In addition to wars, weaponry, and science fiction, Bretnor’s broad interests included cats. (And puns. Did we mention the horrible puns?) These subjects are all touched on in this collection. A sly sense of humor permeates Bretnor’s fiction, and as we work to digitize his complete body of work and present it to readers in a series of Reginald Bretnor Megapacks, we know you’ll have fun reading them.
