Lady Justice and the Lottery is a fun read, once again showcasing the talents of Robert Thornhill. I generally am amazed at the historical knowledge of Thornhill who obviously does his homework before writing his stories. He has the uncanny ability to weave those factoids into the fictional plot of his mysteries, while maintaining an air of humor throughout his stories. In short, Thornhill is something of a genius at crafting a good, entertaining mystery, guaranteed to make you laugh.

All scientific research has an element of risk, especially investigations that advance beyond the edge of the known into the unknown to probe the limits of what is possible and what is not. Jeremiah Arkenton must keep this in mind as he and his wife investigate the mysterious disappearance of a colleague while trying to avoid the same fate. This is a short story and a Cthulhu Mythos tale.Jeremiah Arkenton is a dedicated and consummate theoretical scientist, while his wife Kathleen is a technological genius in her own right. Together they have made many breakthroughs for the US government and military while pursuing their own pet projects. They more than anyone, even among their fellow scientists, understand the risk inherent in scientific research, especially when investigations push beyond the boundary of what is known into the unknown, to deliberately probe the limits of what is possible versus what is impossible.Jeremiah and Kathleen are asked by their good friend Laban Shrewsbury to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a scientist working at the Natural History Museum in Denver, Colorado, at the request of a former student who heads the research department. It turns out to be a classic "locked room" mystery, with the only clue being an enigmatic device that resembles a telescope. The researcher's notes describe it as a "tachyon television", which uses particles that travel faster than light to "see" objects farther away than is possible for any device that relies on normal electromagnetic waves, such as light or radio waves. To solve the mystery, the couple decide they must activate the device to see what happens. At the same time, they must try to avoid the same fate of the hapless museum scientist. Views: 311

Donna Colby wakes up with a hangover and finds a man in her bed who is NOT her fiancé. She has no memory of how she got there. In a matter of moments, she finds that she is married. What will she tell her fiancé of several years? Even worse, what will she tell her MOM?She got three steps outside the door and almost ran into HIM.“Good morning, Honey.” The man, her new husband said, “I didn’t think you were coming out today.” He folded her in his arms and kissed her with unbridled passion. He caught her off guard and she was having trouble thinking how to react. In the instant before their lips met, she saw he was very cute. He was tall, having to lean down to kiss her. He was well built, and solid. She closed her eyes and felt herself melting. He was one heck of a kisser! He was a better kisser than Albert was, she thought guiltily. He was even better than Freddie Nolan back in college who had been her gold standard for comparison. Until now.The kiss continued and he pulled her tighter. It was very, very nice. A warmth was developing rapidly inside, spreading fast. She was becoming tingly and achy in all the right places. She became aware of something happening between them. He was rising fast. Her eyes flew wide as realization of some very dangerous facts. He was naked against her. He was erect. He was HUGE!“Back up, dude!” She warned, pushing him away. “And get some clothes on. You could knock a vase off waving yourself around like that!”“Sure, honey.” He said, smiling. “Do you think you should put something on too?”“Oh, God!” She gasped, blushing from head to toe. She had forgotten her state of dress… er… undress. She covered her breasts with one arm and her bottom with her other hand. “Turn around! Don’t look at me!”“What’s wrong, honey?” He asked concerned, reaching toward her. “You’re acting very strange this morning! If I didn’t know better, I’d swear you don’t know me!”“Don’t touch me,” Donna shouted. “I don’t know you!”“This isn’t funny!” He said. “You know we’ve spent every waking moment together since we met.”“Well, As far as I’m concerned, we haven’t met.” Donna replied. “Could you please get some clothes on?”It was very distracting with him waving around like that.“Sure, honey.” He chuckled. When love returns to Dave's life, he asks himself has he changed; has she changed. To really see yourself, looking in the mirror is not the answer; you have to see yourself through a stranger's eyes. Just as important, is this real, everlasting love; is it 'need', or true 'want'?When love returns to Dave's life, he asks himself has he changed; has she changed. Is he the man she deserves, desires. To really see yourself, looking in the mirror is not the answer; you have to see yourself through a stranger's eyes. Just as important, Dave and Breen need to decide if this is real, everlasting love; is it 'need', or true 'want'? “Need is when you reach out in the middle of the night to touch the woman laying next to you; the need to reassure yourself she is still there. Want…want is desperately wanting to be there next to her, to be the only man she reaches out for.” And, as Dave has learned, romanticism may be glorious to the woman who receives the benefits – the flowers, the love letters, the small gifts of the heart – but to the romantic it has moments that overwhelm logic; overwhelm common sense.
