Setting the pace: Getting started in NGO corporate governance

The study takes a point of departure in explaining how non governmental organisations can adapt and adopt effective corporate governance practices viz- a- viz, how NGOs can adapt and adopt to corporate governance. Several non governmental organizations do not observe good corporate governanceThe collective problem of business today is increasingly attributed to the failure of corporate governance. This means that far too many boards are failing to execute their duties responsibly, both collectively and individually. Despite increasing awareness, there is a general lack of understanding of the principles of effective corporate governance in most quarters.Several non governmental organisations do not observe good corporate governance and this to the collapse of many. There are no set rules that are binding and which establish the ways in which organisations have to govern themselves. Effective governance and accountability begins in one’s organisation, no matter how big or small. This means ensuring that the appropriate processes and structures are in place to direct and manage an organisation’s operations and activities, and to ensure the effectiveness, credibility and viability of the organisation. Increasingly, revelations of deterioration, in quality and transparency have called for the adoption of internationally accepted best practices. Corporate governance encompasses commitment to values and to ethical business conduct to maximize shareholders values on a sustainable basis, while ensuring fairness to all stakeholders including customers or beneficiaries, employees and investors. The harsh economic conditions that prevailed in the country since 2007 have given non governmental organisation a difficult time that required them to have good corporate governance practices.

Our Blissful Bayou Beginnings

The first in a series, this novella covers the origins of a centuries-old on-and-off relationship between a wealthy young lawyer and his mistress. The Duck And The Doe is the tale of two immortal beings whose eternal love has soured a bit in the last two centuries. Written as a memoir by the "hero", this novella is a musing on both what love is and how much America has changed since the early 19th century. The first volume deals with both the supernatural and the racism of the old American south. Told with humor and passion (and the occasional rant) the story of these strong characters, including a wealthy young lawyer and a clever courtesan, will change your idea of what "love forever'' really means.

A stunning debut novel in the spirit of The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews, Mister Roger and Me perfectly captures the irony, innocence, heartbreak, and humour of childhood.

The Summer of Our Foreclosure

When the American Dream is defined as something you can’t afford, you can extend your finances, extend your commute, extend your family, extend your reasoning, and when the dream snaps back into reality, extend the party one more summer and try to finally enjoy what you have before it’s gone.Of all the indicators of a housing bubble, the biggest may be how many people are willing to buy into a housing development as remote as Rancho Hacienda, a walled community built next to a rickety village of laborers stuck in the most arid section of a vast farming valley. The initial delight of the parents and frustration of their children at buying a home so far away from civilization is soon turned upside down, with the children reveling in the freedom created by parents gone missing thanks to lengthy commutes and exhaustion. As home values plummet, higher rates kick in, and foreclosures mount, a number of parents decide to spend their last days in the neighborhood creating the kind of atmosphere they had imagined when they first moved in: making time through a variety of means to barbeque, have block parties, and infringe on the independence that their children had grown used to. Nick’s parents are the instigators of the long good-bye, and it is from his perspective that we look back on that summer when the bubble burst.
