We Could Be Amazing

Kiona agrees to bring her son to her ex-husband Ridge so they can spend Christmas together in Seattle where he lives. A routine drop off and kiss good-bye should have gone smoothly, but her son pretends to be ill so Kiona will spend the night under the same roof as her ex. Kiona’s plans go south, and Ridge invites her to spend the holidays with him and his family on Bainbridge Island. The only problem with that aside from the fact that she still loves him is Ridge’s snooty mother hates Kiona—the feeling is mutual—and one mustn’t forget the presence of the slut that caused them to get divorced in the first place.

Cold Quiet Country

On his last day in power, with a blizzard threatening 18 inches of snow, Sheriff Bittersmith is called to the scene of a crime. A farmer has been stabbed clean through the neck with a pitchfork. Two sets of tracks lead from the barn, and the dead man's frantic wife exclaims her daughter is missing. Convinced it was Gale G'Wain, the orphan who worked at the farm, Bittersmith follows the vanishing footprints into the storm.Three miles away, Gale G'Wain is alone and close to dead. He's holed up in an empty farmhouse, half-dressed and nearly dead after falling through lake ice. Innocent, but unlikely to ever stand trial in a town as corrupt as Bittersmith, he loads his gun and prepares to defend himself against the dead man's bloodthirsty sons and the Sheriff's Department.Set in small town Wyoming in the 70s and unfolding in a single day, Clayton Lindemuth's debut novel, Cold Quiet Country, explores small-town corruption and the lengths some people will go to exact revenge. With a deft hand and sinister eye, Clayton Lindemuth reminds us that the green, idyllic landscape of Middle America can suddenly become an ominous backdrop for violence and treachery. Suspenseful, intelligent and bold, COLD QUIET COUNTRY brings a new edge to the world of modern noir and readers will not be able to look upon rolling hills, pastoral fields and picturesque barns without a sense of foreboding anytime soon.ReviewPublishers Weekly ( ★ Starred Review★ ) "Lindemuth's impressive debut...is a go-for-the-jugular country noir.... and his visceral prose and unsparing tone are wonderfully reminiscent of such modern rural noir masters as Tom Franklin and Donald Ray Pollock." --  ForeWord Reviews ★★★★★  Clayton Lindemuth's stunning first novel is all about good hunting down evil on a snowbound day, but common notions about good men no longer apply in the moral darkness that is Bittersmith. As Gale waits for his accusers, including Sheriff Bittersmith, to track him down, he reflects on his options: on one hand, "obedience and expeditiousness;" on the other, "standing against a world gone mad." Through Gale, Lindemuth is unsparing in his advocacy of the "honorable fight."

A Notorious Countess Confesses: Pennyroyal Green Series

She rose to spectacular heights . . . *From Covent Garden to courtesan to countess, beautiful, fearless, shamelessly ambitious Evie Duggan has riveted London in every role she plays. But the ton never could forgive her scandalous—if shockingly short—marriage, and when her star plummets amid gleefully vicious gossip, the countess escapes to the only legacy left to her: a manor house in Pennyroyal Green. He never expected to fall so hard . . . *He has the face of a fallen angel and a smolder the devil would envy, but Vicar Adam Sylvaine walks a precarious line: resisting temptation . . . and the wild Eversea blood in his veins. Adam's strength is tested when scandal, aka the countess, moves to Sussex. But when a woman who fiercely guards her heart and a man entrusted with the souls of an entire town surrender to a forbidden desire, will the sweetest sin lead them to heaven . . . or make outcasts of them forever? About the AuthorSan Francisco Bay Area native Julie Anne Long originally set out to be a rock star when she grew up (and she has the guitars and fringed clothing stuffed in the back of her closet to prove it), but writing was always her first love. She began her academic career as a Journalism major, until she realized Creative Writing was a better fit for her freewheeling imagination and overdeveloped sense of whimsy. And when playing guitar in dank, sticky clubs finally lost its "charm," Julie realized she could incorporate all the best things about being in a band—namely drama, passion, and men with unruly hair—into novels, while also indulging her love of history and research. Since then, her books have been nominated for numerous awards, including the RITA®, Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice, the Holt Medallion, Bookseller's Best, and The Quills, and reviewers have been known to use words such as "dazzling," "brilliant," and "impossible to put down" when describing them.
