Be careful what you ask of Fate - sometimes she gives it to you. When
we last saw our heroine, she'd watched her faithful pet rip off her new
best friend's head to save her son's life and Atlantis was rising from
the depths. Now, Grace Murphy is back in the third installment of the
Huntress series, but this time she's facing an all-out war. It's
critical that Nyx (and Atlantis) stay buried, but her psychotic brats
will do most anything to get her back. With Hypnos invading her
dreams, Dylan caught up in the throes of his "change" and juggling her
relationships with Drew and Heph, to say Grace's hands are full would be
an understatement. You didn't think that was all, did you? Of course there's more!Grace
wished her life would just go back to the way it was before, and that
she wouldn't have her powers or responsibilities anymore. Unfortunately,
it looks like Fate answered this time. The results aren't pretty. Views: 19
Poetry. Pamela Porter's poems celebrate a world awaiting discovery. She opens this new collection with a poem entitled "An Offering" in which she brings to the ceremony "poems / for every season—of dreams born, / burning, broken" and, in particular, one that "begins like a perilous grace" to develop as "naked and tender and wanting." Throughout, one hears and sees images that connect both the poet and reader to other dimensions. Always for Porter, there is the moment tentatively coming into being where the mundane is transformed into something totally unexpected and otherworldly. The image can be one that develops from the natural world as in "Branches, Early Spring," where she sees how "the trees' red sap set the sky on fire." Another poem based in nature is "Naming" in which "small birds life into the sky / holding in their beaks / the words we don't need to say." Throughout, Porter's poems celebrate moments when we experience "the beginning of the world again."About the AuthorPamela Porter is the author of the multiple award-winning novel The Crazy Man and three previous volumes of poetry: Stones Call Out, The Intelligence of Animals and CATHEDRAL. In 1988, she traveled to Nicaragua and Guatemala to document the experiences of ordinary people caught in the Contra war and the government sponsored terror against Guatemalan teachers and aid workers. Later with two children, she and her husband worked in Angola and Ghana. Pamela Porter is now a sessional instructor at the University of Victoria and lives on Vancouver Island with her husband, children, and a menagerie of rescued animals. Views: 19
Book1Courtney Bell thought she was going to have it all. A recent graduate with an MBA from Stanford and a job offer to the prestigious Asgard Corporation--the world was going to be her oyster. But years later, she’s still stuck in the same entry-level position she started in. Dissatisfied with corporate culture and office politics, she walks into her annual performance review expecting to be turned down again for a promotion. What she doesn’t expect is that her reviewer is the CEO, Vance Forster, and his plans for her extend far beyond a simple promotion...Excerpt:“You have quite an impressive resumé, Ms. Bell,” Vance spoke with a quiet authority that instantly made it obvious why he'd risen to power so quickly, though Courtney was sure his looks hadn't hurt. He continued. “It's too bad your performance hasn't lived up to it. You'd think that someone with your education could manage far better.”Courtney's jaw dropped. He was the first reviewer who'd ever mentioned her background and he was using it to berate her? All right, she conceded, berate may have been too strong a word, but she'd already been feeling foolish enough that the words hurt more than they would have normally.“Are things too hard for you, Ms. Bell?”She snapped her mouth shut, sure she had imagined the stress he’d put on that one word. There was no way he was hitting on her. Was there?“You did well your first two years here,” Vance straightened and took a step towards Courtney. “Maybe all you need is some discipline.” Views: 19
