Acclaimed for his previous tough, hard-boiled whodunits, Alan Russell now introduces a new series in a more lighthearted vein featuring a wry and sly hotel detective with a decidedly offbeat approach to his job. Boyish, blond-haired ex-surfer Am Caulfield is assistant general manager of the posh Hotel California, on the Golden State's riviera. Or rather, he was assistant manager until his boss, Manager Raymond Kendrick, informs him he's now going to be acting security director as well. (Am isn't quite sure the appointment is a vote of confidence in his talents. In fact, he strongly suspects it's more like revenge for his all-too-accurate imitation of Kendrick at a recent staff party.). No sooner does Am don his gumshoes than he's up to his knees in trouble. Someone is stealing personal items from the room of a well-endowed female guest. Two hundred scrumptious entries in a pastry contest have mysteriously disappeared from a locked kitchen. And a man has fallen to his death from a seventh-floor balcony. Is it suicide - or did he have help? But these problems are a snap compared to solving the double murder in room 605 when a lawyer and his paramour are stabbed with a hotel carving knife. Just to make Am's investigations more difficult are the one hundred and sixty members of the Bob Johnson Society - all named Bob Johnson - who have just checked in for a Murder Mayhem Weekend. An ordinary detective might be fazed. But although Am is new to sleuthing, he knows how to keep tabs on guests. Despite a tempermental chef on a rampage, a permanently lost bellhop, and an attractive intern-assistant with her own hidden agenda, Am, in his own unhurried way, cuts through the chaos to prove himself worthy of his title: the Hotel Detective. A year ago in Afghanistan, Green Beret Heath Daniel’s career was destroyed. Along with his faith. Now he and his military war dog, Trinity, train other dogs and their handlers. Though his passion is to be back in action, the medical discharge has forced Heath—and Trinity—to the sidelines. Military intelligence officer Darci Kintz is captured while secretly tracking the Taliban. Only one dog can handle the extreme conditions to save her. Trinity. Only one man can handle Trinity. Time is running out on the greatest—and most dangerous—mission of their lives.Review"Dangerous mysteries drive this moving and compelling military dog story. So vivid and contemporary that it could be happening here and now!"- Kathy Tyers, author of the Firebird series"If 'care about the protagonists' is the essential element of good fiction, Trinity is masterful. A war dog, an intrepid, multiethnic girl and a healing former Green Beret mix it up with the enemy on the mountain cliffs of Afghanistan. Ronie Kendig has penned a page-turner of the first order."-Eric Wiggin, author of Skinny Dipping at Megunticook Lake and Emily's Garden"Dodge bullets, cling by your fingertips to an icy cliff—then fall heart first for a wounded hero and his incredible military war dog. You won't sleep, but please remember to breathe. Ronie Kendig's rapid-fire fiction: Oorah!"—Candace Calvert, author of the Mercy Hospital series and Trauma PlanTrinity will capture your heart right away and will not let go until the last person is saved. I didn't realize just how important these dogs were to the military (sorry, I have a very limited scope of what our military does!). I did't realize that MWDs earned ranks along with their trainers. Trinity has a higher rank than her faithful friend Ghost. I have a much greater appreciation now of the military and the training that takes place because of what Ronie has written into her books. She is a "military brat" who extensively researches her subjects before writing on them.Thank you, Ronie for yet another great book and for helping me to appreciate MWDs and other beautiful creatures even more!(Julie Johnson My Own Little Corner of the World 20120706)Trinity is a poignant and contemporary novel overflowing with suspense, mystery, and danger. Ronie Kendig returns as strong as ever with her new series, A Breed Apart. The author brings to life the worries, fears, and the sense of loss so many service members experience after an injury while serving in the line of duty. Heath’s journey to rediscovery is one of heart-wrenching emotions with a hope-filled conclusion.Strong writing and vivid descriptions place the reader in the middle of the action. Within a span of a few minutes, I went from choking up, to laughing out loud, to feeling like my heart would leap out of my chest, and then the cycle would begin again as I experienced the characters’ stories as though they were my own. With so many men and women currently serving overseas in the military, Trinity felt like a window through which I could peer into their world and catch a small glimpse of the struggles, fears, and hopes they face every day. I strongly recommend this novel to suspense fans.(Elizabeth Olmedo Fiction Addict 20120703) Book DescriptionReeling from the effects of a traumatic brain injury that ripped his military career from his hands, former Green Beret Heath Daniels struggles to find new purpose with his war dog, Trinity. Review'An absorbing and haunting novel' -- Daily Mail 'A fascinating novel, a richly woven tapestry presented with a vividness that brings the characters from myth to real life' -- Evening Standard 'Mary Stewart, enchantress ... an ability to evoke a situation, a mood or a season with a few phrases of prose that are almost verse' -- Daily Telegraph 'A perfect trip out of the present.' -- New York Times Book Review From the PublisherIf you haven't read Mary Stewart's Arthurian Saga, you don't know what you're missing. They are must reads for any romance reader, for any lover of Arthurian legend, for any history buff, for any voracious reader, and may be the books to get non-readers started. Basically, they should be read by everyone! Mary Stewart's research for these books is phenomenal. Her understanding of myth and its relationship to fact is remarkable. The books are complex, yet incredibly inviting and you will absolutely love the characters. They also weave together so beautifully that you won't be able to read only one. Two things I find particularly interesting in this series is the portrayal of Arthur and the fall of Camelot. Arthur represents all of humanity in these books as opposed to the more mythical figure you usually see. And the fall of Camelot is more internal rather than external--more about the passions and lusts in the heart rather than a more obvious loss of power. The books go in this order: The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, The Last Enchantment, The Wicked Day. Shauna Summers, Senior Editor Views: 20
