Eldritch Tales: A Miscellany of the Macabre

Following the phenomenal success of Necronomicon, its companion volume brings together Lovecraft’s remaining major stories plus his weird poetry, a number of obscure revisions, and some notable nonfiction, including the seminal critical essay Supernatural Horror in Literature Gathering together in chronological order the rest of Lovecraft's rarely seen but extraordinary short fiction, this collection includes the entirety of the long-out-of-print collection of 36 sonnets "Fungi from Yoggoth." Howard Phillips Lovecraft died at the age of 47, but in his short life he turned out dozens of stories which changed the face of horror. His extraordinary imagination spawned both the Elder God Cthulhu and his eldritch cohorts, and the strangely compelling town of Innsmouth, all of which feature within these pages. Stephen Jones, one of the world's foremost editors of dark fiction, will complete the Lovecraft story in his extensive afterword, and award-winning artist Les Edwards will provide numerous illustrations for this must-have collection.

Excellence at Work

Amanda Watson, a private detective, is as dedicated to her work as one can be. It is not just a job for her but her passion to find the missing clues and pieces to solve the mysteries presented to her. There may be hurdles in her way but she has always believed that if one is determined enough, one can even reach beyond the skies. There was a time when writing a short story was an art form. The novella reigned queen and “novels” were published in serial form. Books were expensive back then, but the printing of pamphlets was cheap enough to mass-produce. Many of our most beloved classic authors flourished under these circumstances. What was old is new again. Today, the ability to read in digital format is becoming ubiquitous. eReaders are more affordable and other devices such as smart phones are now commonly used as readers, too. However, books in eFormat are steadily becoming more expensive. Perhaps it is time to walk in the footsteps of the masters. Go to Sleepy Little Baby is the second short story in the Odd Socks series of “ePamphlets.” Lilah is what some would generously call, “unbalanced.” She’s reliant on routine and little orange pills to maintain control. Compliance is mandatory and the scales slip precariously when life’s reality interrupts.

The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Man Booker Prize-winning novel Lincoln in the Bardo and the story collection Tenth of December, a 2013 National Book Award Finalist for Fiction. In a profoundly strange country called Inner Horner, large enough for only one resident at a time, citizens waiting to enter the country fall under the rule of the power-hungry and tyrannical Phil, setting off a chain of injustice and mass hysteria. An Animal Farm for the 21st century, this is an incendiary political satire of unprecedented imagination, spiky humor, and cautionary appreciation for the hysteric in everyone. Over six years in the writing, and brilliantly and beautifully packaged, this novella is Saunders' first stand-alone, book-length work—and his first book for adults in five years.

This Is Water

Only once did David Foster Wallace give a public talk on his views on life, during a commencement address given in 2005 at Kenyon College. The speech is reprinted for the first time in book form in THIS IS WATER. How does one keep from going through their comfortable, prosperous adult life unconsciously? How do we get ourselves out of the foreground of our thoughts and achieve compassion? The speech captures Wallace's electric intellect as well as his grace in attention to others. After his death, it became a treasured piece of writing reprinted in The Wall Street Journal and the London Times, commented on endlessly in blogs, and emailed from friend to friend. Writing with his one-of-a-kind blend of causal humor, exacting intellect, and practical philosophy, David Foster Wallace probes the challenges of daily living and offers advice that renews us with every reading.

Diamonds From Tequila (Dagmar Shaw Thrillers 4)

"Walter Jon Williams is a visionary of tremendous power and originality . . . He kills every damn time."—Junot Díaz, Pulitzer Prize-winning authorSean Makin was a washed-up child actor, until Dagmar Shaw made him a star. Now he's starring in a big-budget action thriller that offers him the chance to become a box-office titan.Except the action and the thrills aren't just in the movie. Dangerous and destabilizing new technology is floating around behind the scenes. Police and cartel lords lurk in the shadows. An assassin is on the loose, and has already claimed his first victim.Sean could be next in the killer's sights, unless he can find out what the bad guys want, who's hiding it, and how many people he's going to have to betray in order to save his life—- and more importantly, his celebrity!"This story is a must read. One of my favorites in the whole anthology so far. The main character is funny, even though he's not trying to be. And essentially what we've got is a self-absorbed...
