A collection of flash fiction about the lives of academics and young, urban professionals.Bored in the Breakroom is a compilation of flash fiction and slightly longer stories that I have written, most of which had already been published on my blogs as well as blogs run by others.Originally this collection had no theme and was instead just a glom of everything I thought worthwhile. During the editing process, Matt DeBenedictis mentioned the strong presence of academic and office life in many of the stories. We decided to do much pruning here and add some detail there to make the content less burdensome. The result is a more cohesive narrative about the lives of academics and young, urban professionals. All stories written by Jay DiNitto.Edited by Matt DeBenedictis. Views: 223
Beginning her training to turn her into a proper elf, Habel meets her tutors and tries to grapple with her new reality.
Habel is ready to learn what the tower has to teach her. She knows how to get dressed in the mornings, and finding her tutors is no trouble, but she keeps slipping up. She is not an elf with purged memories, she is a human troll in an elf body, and when she opens her mouth, it shows.
She gains a little knowledge of the elf society, learns that her troll background is easily visible to those who know what to look for and that elves don’t fight dirty. That is about to change.
A quick call to assist the elder ends up with her interacting with two other magical species. Once again, her impulses get the best of her, with an interested witness. Views: 222

Dan Wells won instant acclaim for his three-novel debut about the adventures of John Wayne Cleaver, a heroic young man who is a potential serial killer. All who read the trilogy were struck by the distinctive and believable voice Wells created for John.
Now he returns with another innovative thriller told in a very different, equally unique voice. A voice that comes to us from the realm of madness.
Michael Shipman is paranoid schizophrenic; he suffers from hallucinations, delusions, and complex fantasies of persecution and horror. That’s bad enough. But what can he do if some of the monsters he sees turn out to be real?
Who can you trust if you can't even trust yourself? The Hollow City is a mesmerizing journey into madness, where the greatest enemy of all is your own mind. Views: 222

It doesn’t seem likely for twins to have the same middle name. Even so, it’s clear that Castor and Pollux Stone both have "Trouble" written in that spot on their birth certificates. Of course, anyone who’s met their grandmother Hazel would know that they came by it honestly…
Join the Stone twins as they connive, cajole, and bamboozle their way across the Solar System in the company of the most high-spirited and hilarious family in all of science fiction. This light-hearted tale has some of Heinlein’s sassiest dialogue (not to mention the famous Flat Cats incident!). Oddly enough, it’s also a true example of real family values–for when you’re a Stone, your family is your highest priority. Views: 222
