Memoirs of a Dragon Hunter

Big Dark Hole

A Jeffrey Ford story may start out in the innocuous and routine world of college teaching or evenings on a porch with your wife. But inevitably the weird comes crashing in. Maybe it's an unexpected light in a dark and uninhabited house, maybe it's a drainage tunnel that some poor kid is suddenly compelled to explore. Maybe there's a monkey in the woods or an angel that you'll need to fight if you want to gain tenure. Big Dark Hole is about those big, dark holes that we find ourselves once in a while and maybe, too, the big dark holes that exist inside of us.

Special Messenger

In the personality and exploits of the Special Messenger, the author has been assured that a celebrated historical character is recognizable - Miss Boyd, the famous Confederate scout and spy. It is not uncommon that the readers of a book know more about that book than the author. R. W. C. Includes vintage illustration!

Eversion

Eversion is a superb, original Gothic SF novel. A small group of intrepid explorers are in search of a remote and mysterious artefact. I, Row-Boat

"I, Row-Boat" is a riff on the Hugo-nominated story I, Robot, and it concerns the theological wars between an Asimov-cultist AI boat and an uplifted coral-reef. The reef made a tremendous grinding noise. "Yaah!" it said. "Get lost. Sovereign territory!" "All those fish," the woman said. Robbie had to stop himself from thinking of her as Janet. She was whomever was riding her now. "Parrotfish," Robbie said. "They eat coral. I don't think they taste very good." The woman hugged herself. "Are you sentient?" she asked. "Yes," Robbie said. "And at your service, Asimov be blessed." His cameras spotted her eyes rolling, and that stung. He tried to keep his thoughts pious, though. The point of Asimovism wasn't to inspire gratitude in humans, it was to give purpose to the long, long life.
