Jed Cochrane is about to take off on man\'s first interstellar voyage. His mission: Make sure it\'s good television! “The indefatigable Leinster! This is his fourth 1954 novel – and another 1954 item is on hand for review next month, too! What a man! The current tale, which has never been serialized, takes an entirely new look at faster-than-light travel to the stars: a fast-paced, sardonic job that is primarily a satire on the future of mass communications. Fella discovers faster-than-light communications technique. TV producer says, ‘Why not physical objects, too?’ Filthy rich neurotic buys ‘fame-rights’ to the invention. Luxurious spaceship built as a giant hoax to hook investors in a non-existent expedition to Mars (the Moon is already colonized) becomes the first, almost involuntary faster-than-light vessel, with as screwy a crew as has ever been cooked up (including the inevitable and delightful Leinster heroine), and the whole jaunt to the stars is turned into raw material for the TV producer’s regular ‘space opera’ show – with commercials – and what commercials! It’s a jolly tale indeed.” -Groff Conklin, Galaxy Magazine, March 1955 Views: 667

An epic in four movements, this is the third book in Robert Rankin's highly acclaimed meta-Victorian series. Comparable to Pratchett or Douglas Adams, the Father of Far Fetched Fiction has pulled out all of the stops with this riotous tale of wicked women, a dangerous detective and Darwin the educated ape.
Lord Brentford has a dream. To create a Grand Exposition that will showcase The Wonders of the Worlds and encourage peace between the inhabited planets of Venus, Jupiter and Earth. Ernest Rutherford has a dream. To construct a time ship, powered by the large hadron collider he has built beneath the streets of London. Cameron Bell is England's greatest detective and he, too, has a dream. To solve the crime of the century before it takes place, without blowing up any more of London's landmarks. Darwin is a monkey butler and he also has a dream. To end Man's inhumanity to Monkey and bring a little joy into the world. Lavinia Dharkstorrm has a dream of her own. Although hers is more of a nightmare. To erase Man and Monkey alike from the face of the Earth and to hasten in the End of Days. Then there is the crime-fighting superlady, all those chickens from the past and the unwelcome arrival of The Antichrist. Things are looking rather grim on planet Earth. Views: 667

Whether the story of Gottfried Plattner is to be credited or not, is a pretty question in the value of evidence. On the one hand, we have seven witnesses—to be perfectly exact, we have six and a half pairs of eyes, and one undeniable fact; and on the other we have—what is it?—prejudice, common sense, the inertia of opinion. Never were there seven more honest-seeming witnesses; never was there a more undeniable fact than the inversion of Gottfried Plattner’s anatomical structure, and—never was there a more preposterous story than the one they have to tell! The most preposterous part of the story is the worthy Gottfried’s contribution (for I count him as one of the seven). Heaven forbid that I should be led into giving countenance to superstition by a passion for impartiality, and so come to share the fate of Eusapia’s patrons! Frankly, I believe there is something crooked about this business of Gottfried Plattner; but what that crooked factor is, I will admit as frankly, I do not know. I have been surprised at the credit accorded to the story in the[2] most unexpected and authoritative quarters. The fairest way to the reader, however, will be for me to tell it without further comment. Views: 666
Bunny O'Sullivan is a friendly rabbit who gets along with everyone. When a hawk sees him and his family chomping on Farmer Stubbins's cabbages, will Bunny O'Sullivan be able to get everyone back to the safety of their burrow before the hawk decides it's time for lunch?"Bunny O'Sullivan and the Hawk" is a short tale (1,600 words) for toddlers and young children.Wuhn was a pristine world with lime skies and clear oceans, surrounded by a thin ring system that looked like crumbled glaciers sparkling in the sky. The grass and leaves were royal blue because of the abundance of blue protons seeping through the atmosphere. Its landscape was diverse and luxurious, with cliffs and architecture that reached the clouds. The Wuhn society was a Type 1 civilization of highly intelligent beings. They were over a billion strong and they had developed a moderate degree of telepathy and other advanced abilities. It took a long lineage of strife and struggle for them to make it to this level. In their early history, life was trial and error, and sometimes terror. For most, life “was toil and no one was spoiled. Them being weaker in strength than the other predatory species of the world, caused them to have to resort to using their intelligence and other physical attributes. This put them on a divine path to gaining advantage over everything on the planet; everything except for themselves. An achievement of that magnitude would take time and wisdom. Views: 666
