In A Thousand Tomorrows, Cody Gunner, a talented but angry cowboy, meets Ali Daniels, a lovely and mysterious barrel-racer. The two are national champions, top of their game, alone and intent on staying that way. Cody has rejected everything about his past, and only has room for his little brother, Carl Joseph, born with Down Syndrome. Ali embraces life, making the most of every moment because of a secret she keeps hidden from the public, connecting her with a sister who died before she had a chance to live. Before their paths intersect, competing is all they need, but what fears must they face if together they ignite a love that burns brighter than both of them?
In Just Beyond the Clouds, Cody is nursing a broken heart over the death of the love of his life, when he meets Elle Dalton, Carl Joseph's teacher. Cody can't bear the thought of losing his little brother, too, so when Elle begins championing Carl Joseph's independence, she finds herself at odds with Cody. But even while they battle it out, they can't deny the instinctive connection they share, and Cody faces a crisis of the heart. What if Elle is the one woman who can teach Cody that love is still possible?
In the brand-new omnibus edition, Karen Kingsbury's continuing story of devotion, tragedy, and renewal, comes to life, teaching that while love often causes the heart to break, it's also the only thing that can mend it again. Views: 303

Our young man Tom is in California to hopefully strike it rich in the gold fields. The story shows how he worked hard but also had plenty of help to get closer to his goal. I suppose the boys lapped up this sort of thing like cream back then, but there are more factors to success than just hard work. Tom was lucky with the people he met on his adventure, and the ending of the book would have been quite different and perhaps much more realistic if he had fallen in with different characters. I entertained myself even more while reading by searching out the Lesson in each chapter. They were not always spelled out and were never preachy, but they were there. Here is my list. Actually, quite a few of them would still be good advice today: Chapter 1: work hard and be reasonable with your expectations Chapter 2 : don\'t drink and don\'t gamble Chapter 3 : take care of your parents; and smoking is a bad habit Chapter 4 : don\'t rely on \'luck\' to create your future Chapter 5 : don\'t hang out with the bad guys Chapter 6 : don\'t sleep too soundly Chapter 7 : don\'t assume you are smarter than everyone else Chapter 8 : you will get what you deserve eventually in some form, whether good or bad Chapter 9 : you should be man enough to stare misfortune in the face when it is in front of you: don\'t run from it or think it is worse than it is Chapter 10 : be careful when answering the personal questions of a woman with a gun Chapter 11 : be careful what you wish for Chapter 12 : accept the responsibility for things that go wrong when under your care Chapter 13: accept the need to work Chapter 14 : when discussing mountains or trees or anything else, size is not everything Chapter 15 : if you meet a bear in the woods, don\'t turn and run away Chapter 16 : when you don\'t have everything you wish for, make do with what you have Chapter 17 : remember to do your duty when you need to, don\'t just stand around with your mouth hanging open Chapter 18 : use your common sense Chapter 19 : a bargain is a bargain Chapter 20 : sell when the price is right Chapter 21 : buy when the deal is good Chapter 22 : once again, don\'t gamble! Chapter 23 : don\'t think too much of the past, just vow not to repeat any foolish actions and then keep going forward Chapter 24 : do your best at all times Chapter 25 : never think of stealing Chapter 26 : pay your debts before buying things you don\'t need Chapter 27 : a dead river is the best place to find gold Chapter 28 : gold is only valuable for what it will bring Chapter 29 : appearances are deceiving Chapter 30 : a business man should not be completely hard-hearted Chapter 31 : be bold when bidding but don\'t bid if you don\'t have the money to pay Chapter 32 : do not misuse the advantages you are given in life Views: 302

This is a fun story that I wrote as a farewell to the city where I have lived for thirty years, a city that I'll soon be moving away from. The following story is a work of fiction, with all places and characters fictional (although, if anyone knows where angels (the ones with real wings) really get together, let me know).A compilation of poetry from the pen of Caribbean poet Hezron Henry. With poems laced with realism, honesty and reflection, he invites the reader into his mind as his poems depict experiences and perspectives of life intricately presented and unveiled in three acts. Act I: “The Interlude” speaks to a generation, inspiring liberation and a new perspective calling readers to be intellectually stimulated and seeks to inspire a movement of independent thinkers. Act II:“Rib Caged In/Paper Clouds” speaks of, to and through the emotion of the heart. Act III:“Conversations with my soul” is a depiction of the depth of the writer. He allows readers to explore his deepest thoughts, and navigate his inner being. He is bold, vulnerable, rational. This anthology caters to a wide variety of poetry lovers in a thought provoking expression of the cycle of life. Each segment speaks to a real audience. Poems are candidly written, yet subtly evoke sensitivity. Views: 301

Bessie found that it was so. There was the squirrel\'s head, twisted oddly on one side, in order to get a good view of his disturbers. His keen eyes were fixed anxiously on them, as though to discover the cause of their intrusion. Presently he leaped on a branch of a shrub, and sat staring solemnly at them."It can\'t be a squirrel," said Bessie, "after all; its tail is not half bushy or long enough.""It jumps like one," said Nellie, "and its eyes and ears are just like a squirrel\'s too. See, it\'s gray and white!"They approached slowly, the little animal permitting them to come quite close, and then the children saw that it was indeed a squirrel, but that its tail had, by some accident, been torn nearly half away."Perhaps it has been caught in a trap," suggested Nelly."Or in a branch of a tree," said Bessie. "Well, anyway, little Mr. Squirrel, we shall know you again if we meet you.""I should say," exclaimed Nelly, "that there must be plenty of nuts somewhere near us, or that gray squirrel would not be likely to be here."The two girls now set about searching for a hickory nut-tree, quite encouraged in the thought that their walk was to be rewarded at last. Nelly was right in her[16] conjecture. It was not long before they recognized the well-known leaf of the species of tree of which they were in quest. A small group of them stood together, not far distant, and great was the delight of the children to find the ground beneath well strewed with nuts, some of them lying quite free from their rough outer shells, others only partially opened, while many of them were still in the exact state in which they hung upon the tree. Of course the former were preferred by the little nut gatherers, but it was found that as these did not fill the bag and baskets, it was necessary to shell some of the remainder. Accordingly, Bessie selected a large flat stone, as the scene of operation, and providing herself with another small one, as a hammer, she began pounding the unshelled nuts, and by these means accumulated a second store; Nelly gathering them, and making a pile beside her, ready to be denuded of their hard green coverings.
