Phoenix Falling

Laura Bickle, the critically acclaimed author of Nine of Stars and Witch Creek, returns with a fiery new chapter in her celebrated Wildlands series. In the Yellowstone backcountry, a merciless source of evil carries a torch for the past...Petra Dee and her immortal husband, Gabe, have been trying to gain a toehold in what passes for ordinary life in Temperance, Wyoming—a wickedly enchanted land founded generations ago by the alchemist, Lascaris. Petra may be adept when it comes to the uncanny, but as a reasoned geologist, Petra still can't fathom the wildfires suddenly engulfing Yellowstone National Park, or why Gabe claims to have seen the sky explode in flames. The answers could lie in the past. It was a dreadful night in 1862 when Lascaris went harvesting for souls, only to be set upon by townsfolk determined to eliminate the root of all evil in a trial by fire. Perfect Fit (Small-Town Secrets-Fairview Series Book 4)

Julie Simmons is exhausted. Between studying to become a certified midwife and attending births, she's constantly on the go. Add to that, she's helping her jilted sister care for four children.Nick Hoffman is the brother of one of Julie's clients. She writes him off as a jerk after he questions her professionalism during his sister's delivery. But a few days later, he calls her in a panic. His sister has been rushed back to the hospital, and he's left caring for her newborn and toddler, when he doesn't have a clue how to do so. Julie comes to help and they bond over a night of caring for two sleepless little ones.Nick loves kids and can’t wait to settle down and have some of his own. Julie has decided she’d rather stick to helping other women have babies than have any of her own. What happens when you want each other, but you don’t want the same future?*NOTE* As a side note, I also write for Curvicality.com, a new online magazine that stresses body positivity, so I wanted to tell a story about a curvy girl. Julie worries what Nick will think of her body. Actually, she spends way too much time worrying about what everybody will think about her body. Her fitness-crazy neighbor Lila doesn't help matters at all, always 'encouraging' Julie that if she just lost some weight she'd be pretty. I probably don't need to tell you that Nick likes Julie's body just fine as it is, and that he has a few insecurities of his own. I love this subplot, and I think any woman who has ever carried a few extra pounds will identify with Julie's journey.
