A Night at the Opera

This is the first of three interconnected stories that lead to an unexpected place. The first story of course is about the happenings one night at the opera. The second is about a love story that ends in what seems to be a tragedy. The third is about a horrible tragedy that will affect us all. Many of us are creatures of routine. We establish an activity or series of activities in life that we love. The pleasure they give encourages us to pursue a like pattern over and over. Such was the life of Robert Coninghame. His love was immersing himself in the art of opera. The highlight of that enjoyment was attending an expertly composed and executed opera by unequaled performers and musicians in a magnificent theater. When he was not attending an opera he was immersed in reading and learning about every aspect of this marvelous world. His passion for the opera was equaled by no other endeavor, until . . .One night, in a moment, a chance encounter crushed his precisely arranged life and neatly compartmentalized existence. It rearranged his priorities for the rest of his life. Follow Robert through a trilogy of stories that began at “A Night at the Opera” and ended most unusually. The “no smoking” sign is on, buckle your seatbelts, and check the life preserver under your seat (literally). This may be an unconventional, thought provoking, and turbulent trip to a place you were not expecting to go.

Siren's Call

A girl who believes in fairytales goes in search of her sister who was shipwrecked off a cursed isle. In the wilds of the deep blue sea, she soon discovers that some legends have a ring of truth to them. The twenty-two poems in this collection are, with two exceptions, recent compositions. The poems tackle a variety of subjects, including: nature at it's best and worst; the retrograde loss of memory in the aged; theology; the circular nature of history; and the problem of whistling mailmen. The poetic forms range from tightly controlled meter and rhyme to free verse and even experimental forms, such as those used in "Mine Enemy Sleep" and "Writing a Poem".The author has found inspiration in many poets past and present, but is not tied down to a particular type of poetry. He prefers, rather, that the form should emerge from the theme and the narrator's voice.

No more pain.A parallel story running alongside this one, set in the real world, focuses on a wannabe actor named Christian Anderson. All alone, without a purpose in life, and used to rejection by others, he seeks his dream because he feels it will be the key to ending the stagnant and lonely state that is his life and help him find happiness and fulfillment. The Good Parents

Most conscientious and loving parents want what’s best for their children. They do all they can to raise, protect, and provide for them in preparation for a successful and productive independent life. Sometimes, they become so obsessed with short term and mundane issues they overlook obvious, critical factors that can have a huge negative impact on their lives and the lives of their children.Caitlin and Robert were two such parents, the good parents, in most ways, the best parents. In everything, they made their lives and their comfort secondary to the welfare of their daughter. Nonetheless, one did get overlooked. It was a critical one with grave consequences. This is the second of three interconnected books. Please read “A Night at the Opera” before beginning this story. With the warnings of the Necromancer still in her mind, she has little choice but to accept the protection of her new companion, who leads her on a journey to a distant place of refuge. The Outcast and the Survivor is a chapter-series that follows Kaela, a princess of the mythical kingdom of Kalepo. After her father's sudden death, Kaela is exiled from the kingdom by her older sister Mariam, who claims their father's throne within moments of his passing. By being made an outcast, Kaela is forced not only to say goodbye to her homeland, but also to all of civilization. Kalepo is known only to itself, meaning that Kaela should expect to find a world devoid of humanity beyond the kingdom's borders, but because of something her father whispered to her on his deathbed, she knows that there is more out there, a world of dark secrets for her to discover. The Outcast and the Survivor is released one chapter at a time at the start of each month. There were times in the past when writers would release stories as a series, often for newspapers or magazines. It's not much different from TV series in that each chapter often has its own sort of conclusion, though the larger story is not completed until the end. The series is being written with the intent of ending it at chapter 36, which is scheduled for December of 2017, though this could change as the story develops.
