The new thriller in the #1 New York Times–bestselling Isaac Bell series from grand master of adventure Clive Cussler. As Van Dorn private detective Isaac Bell strives to land a government contract to investigate John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil monopoly, the case takes a deadly turn. A sniper begins murdering opponents of Standard Oil, and soon the assassin—shooting with extraordinary accuracy at seemingly impossible long range—kills Bell’s best witness, a brave and likable man. Then the shooter detonates a terrible explosion that sets the victim’s independent refinery ablaze. Bell summons his best detectives to scour the site of the crime for evidence. Who is the assassin and for whom did he kill? But the murders—shootings, poisonings, staged accidents—have just begun as Bell tracks his phantom-like criminal adversary from the “oil fever” regions of Kansas and Texas to Washington, D.C., to the tycoons’ enclave of New York, to Russia’s war-torn Baku oil fields on the Caspian Sea, and back to America for a final, desperate confrontation. And this one will be the most explosive of all. From the Hardcover edition.Review*Praise for THE ASSASSIN* “Another action-movie-paced entertainment from Cussler's historical-thriller series.” — Kirkus Reviews Praise for THE BOOTLEGGER“The Isaac Bell series continues to tell compelling stories. Tidbits of history are sprinkled throughout the narrative, and it’s fun to filter out fictional characters and events from historical facts.”—Associated Press“Cussler and Scott have written another wonderful page-turner . . . This is historical action-adventure fiction at its rip-roaring best!”—Library Journal (starred review)“As always in this series, the novel is very exciting, with excellent pacing and some very well drawn characters. With his combination of mental and physical prowess, Isaac Bell could easily become a sort of superhero (imagine a blending of Sherlock Holmes and Doc Savage), but the authors do a nice job of keeping him from crossing that line. Another fine entry in a strong series. Cussler is a perennial A-lister, popularity-wise, and his Isaac Bell novels are the pick of his prodigious litter.”—Booklist“[A] laudable historical action novel.”—Publishers WeeklyPraise for THE STRIKER“[Might] be the best yet in the series by Clive Cussler and Justin Scott . . . The history of the unions in early 20th-century America along with the hazardous working conditions of the coal mines would be fascinating reading. Add a James Bond style flair with sabotage and villainy and the end result is a great action thriller.”—Associated Press“Fans of the Isaac Bell series will note the same exciting storytelling and vivid early twentieth-century setting, but they’ll also note something different: even though it’s set only four years earlier than the first Bell novel (2008’s The Chase), the book features a much different Isaac: younger, more impetuous, less calmly analytical . . . this origin story (every hero needs one) will give Bell’s fans a fresh look at their favorite private investigator.”—BooklistAbout the AuthorClive Cussler is the author of dozens of New York Times bestsellers, most recently Ghost Ship, The Eye of Heaven, and Havana Storm. He lives in Arizona.Justin Scott’s novels include The Shipkiller and Normandie Triangle; the Ben Abbott detective series; and modern sea thrillers published under his pen name Paul Garrison. **From the Author
The idea for this story came from a joke I made on Facebook to try to cheer up a friend retaking the bar. Since it was Friday the 13th and I have a black cat, both supposedly bad luck, I joked my black cat was unlucky for everyone but me because he could scoop luck off people and give it to me, and that'd I'd give it to her as a favor. The story grew from there. Views: 232

Once Upon the Congo is the story of expeditions to a remote diamond quarry first located by Henry Stanley’s 1887 trip through the Congo, and the lives, loves and deaths of those who took part in a great African adventure. So remote and dangerous is the site of the mine, expeditions are limited to one in 1966 and another in 2010. A tale of adventure, danger and romance that evokes memories of such great stories as King Solomon Mines and the tales of great white hunters in Africa. The expeditions face angry pygmies who poison the tips of their arrows, unwelcoming wild animals, an unforgiving river and rebel insurgents who are determined to take away any diamonds they might find. Torrid romances and a vein of humor keep the pages turning in this adult novel that blends well researched history and exciting fiction. Views: 232

Or is it possible for him to give his desires a chance? What is the price of making dreams come true? Can they simply be bought with money, or do they require something different? Greg wants to see his dreams come true -- to furnish his apartment with nice things, to find the perfect girl to share it with, and to ultimately become a bigger success than his father had been -- but life keeps finding ways to alter his plans. Can Greg adapt to life's little wrenches and overcome impoverishing events to bring his dreams to reality? Or will he succumb to the hardships of being twentysomething and accept the life of economic misfortune that hounds him?"Shell Out" is the humorous story of a college student's battle with those pesky opposing forces of nature that plague us all: life and desire, ambition and contentment, dreams and reality. It is the story of any of us who has ever had to fend for ourselves in the real world but weren't sure if we'd ever make it. Greg's farcical journey to tame his wallet and fulfill his dreams takes him through the common struggles of young adulthood, including figuring out how to survive a Friday night on a ten-dollar bill, acquiescing to paying bills in spite of not having a job, taking jobs that only a desperate loon would take, working toward a better life in order to win the heart of a girl, and other crazy situations. The question is, are his efforts worth it, or is he just chasing yesterday's American Dream? For those thirty and older who wish to remember their own crazy experiences as a twentysomething, Greg's strange odyssey of economic survival is a comedy. For those currently living the twentysomething life, or those about to approach it, Greg's journey is a horror story.
