Flowers and Stones

A young noblewoman, little more than a girl really, takes up a peculiar hobby with an employee of one of the local brothels. When the gates first opened on Latolan some eight hundred years ago, the only thing the first explorers found were the drunken ruins of a civilization at least a thousand years dead. Since then, The District has taken advantage of the relative neutrality to make the world the home of its headquarters and most of its government funded projects. The only major settlement is Tomar, a single, 80 mile wide city-state. The kaleidoscopic native population is joined by the seasonal residents of Starlight Vale, off-world wealth and nobility with the disposable income and inclination to keep a second estate in the lush hills and meadow-lands set aside on one edge of the city proper just for that purpose. Such a varied and sometimes elite population has attracted a number of different service sector industries whose focus is on attending to both they mental and physical needs of an extremely diverse clientele.A young noblewoman, little more than a girl really, takes up a peculiar hobby with an employee of one of the local brothels.

The Captive

A man can be held captive by more than chains, and his captor can be less official, but no less dominating in nature. This, Patrick now knows, and all for the lack of medical support he is at the mercy of his mother and girlfriend.“You know what the old timers say about Comely? They say the Devil is afraid of him.”Aldous Comely; entrepreneur, philanthropist, bon vivant, crime lord. He has his finger on every conceivable pulse, but his grip is starting to slip.Chance encounters and unexpected friendships force him to remember what it's like to be a human being - at the worst possible time: An old enemy is back in town.As Comely prepares for the oncoming storm, he asks himself if a man with no past can hope for a future.Enoch's Folly is a unique period piece. Set in New York City in 1939, it weaves the stories of real figures and fictional characters in a complex narrative exploring identity, loyalty, big ideas, loss, greed, and the ever-mystifying human condition.---Review from Nate Briggs, The Kindle Book Review:Nate Briggs rated it 3 of 5 starsThe book's synopsis suggests a hard-hitting, period crime novel. In fact, this is a wide-ranging narrative of romance, regret, hope, and a distant taste of crime in the New York City of 1939. There’s trouble in Europe, but Aldous Comely is thinking much more about his life outside the law: wondering if there is a graceful exit toward a day-to-day routine that’s more sustainable. In the mean time, people meet—people strive—and life goes on.If this were a movie, the narrative would be described as “character-driven”: since the focus is more on interaction than on events, and emotions more than explosions.

Lina's Holy Struggle

Lina, a 16 year old Iranian girl, has broken the law, a capital offence:she became a Christian. She is arrested and given ONE brutal choice:renounce Christ and confess Allah and Mohammed his prophet. One ofher captors arranges a marriage contract for her to a strong Muslimman who will, “keep her from foolishness and eternal torment with theinfidels”. Will she be able to follow Christ.Lina, a 16 year old Iranian girl, has broken the law, a capital offence:she became a Christian. She is arrested and given ONE brutal choice:renounce Christ and confess Allah and Mohammed his prophet. One ofher captors arranges a marriage contract for her to a strong Muslimman who will, “keep her from foolishness and eternal torment with theinfidels”. In such a marriage there would certainly be absoluteobedience and perhaps respect, but could anyone dream that there might be romance and love? She faces extreme darkness with no apparent hope, but then there are also glimmers of brilliant light. In times of greatest stress, Lina feels the presence of her spiritual warrior (guardian angel). In dreams Adonai reveals to Lina facts that could catapult her to undesired fame. The shy girl’s desire to live a quiet life may not be realized. Can she possibly avoid sharing Adonai’s message that will turn the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim world on its head as the Last Day approaches? Her choice could cost her everything. Join Lina’s adventure as she crosses the Middle East to seek God’s Plan for her life and finds God’s next step for the world in Jerusalem. The plight of many Christians in the Middle East is tenuous at best. In many countries the simple act of sharing one’s Christian faith can prove fatal on the spot. Government persecution can be just as repressive. The accusation of Christianity could be terrifying whether true or not. There can be no illusion of “easy believe-ism” here. Under these conditions, how would you react if you were, like Lina, accused of Christianity?

This new adventure takes him straight to the heart of the Incurable jumblelium. Now, I know what you are going to say, what on earth could an incurable jumblelium be? The answer is easy. An incurable jumblelium is basically a jumblelium that cannot be cured. Here to whet your appetite, and don't go thinking that you can eat a jumblelium, especially if it is incurable, he is willing to give you a couple of sample chapters. A little wink of sort, he sends your way. Have fun. Perhaps you can find the way out for him, and if you do, please write to me at once, because more than anyone in the universe, I cannot wait to meet him. Nick Klaus also asks me to warn you that he will not be held responsible if you feel confused during the reading of this new adventure. In order to prevent such a tragic fate, which would certainly happen if you got trapped in the jumblelium, he recommends that you read some of his previous attempts to escape, at least read “Nick Klaus and the Room of the Lost Footsteps.” This is only way, he tells me, to prevent such a dreadful and unwelcome state from seizing you (or so he gracefully confided in me) . . .
