The Great American Western (The Lost Episode), A Musical Comedy

This is a full length play written specifically for community theater. Any non-profit theater may produce it without royalties.(It is best read on a full size screen because of the fonts and format)This play has won several regional awards and has been staged over 100 times. It is an edgy, politically incorrect musical that pokes fun at politicians, government, and pop culture.Have fun with it.(I am offering this play to any theater company at no cost. You may produce it without royalties). We first meet the Masked Man and Tonto as they push a shopping cart through the audience. He is recycling aluminum cans. He is homeless and his unemployment checks have run out. The recession has been hard on him.But alas, good times are just around the corner. He lands a job as the sheriff in the small town of Dirtwater, Texas. (with an embellished resume, I might add) Then he meets Carrie Nation and her wild band of women radicals. They are breaking whiskey bottles in record numbers. To complicate matters, J. Edgar Hoover shows up and arrests the Mayor on corruption charges. On top of all that, poor little Fester--the orphan boy--needs money for another leg operation. What a mess. But hold on, you haven’t met Sioux (Sue) yet. She is hot on Tonto’s tail when she learns he has inherited millions from his father’s Indian Casino. There is also a cameo appearance of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders--just for fun. This is a politically incorrect play and proud of it. It pokes fun at Hollywood, sports, political activists, and the government. Most community theaters have used this play to increase their working capital. It has done well for them. The author will assist any theater company in the production of The Great American Western. Bruce Guelden

Mozart's Brain - Number 3

Mozart’s legendary genius for composing beautiful music inspires others in many fields to be as creative, as wrapped in the beauty of their works, as he was in his. These little broadsheets reflect personal inspirations gained from my creative writing efforts, while drinking in all the wonderful and inspiring compositions of a young man two hundred years older than me.“Looking at her weakened body, my eyes got lost in a far-away universe. She was still beautiful. Still smiling. Even now. Worried about her hairstyle. About what people may see in her. How she was dressed. Ensuring she always remains a desired woman. She remained somehow the cute yet sexy woman I once enjoyed life with.”It all started as a teenage romance. To be then put at risk by the cold breeze of death. Twice. “Twice”, a fictional memoir by Frank van der Kok is not a love story. Rather the story of love. Of true love. One that endures time. And a brain damage caused by an unfortunate car accident. And breast cancer. Will it endure further trials? Frank van der Kok tells this unique and touching story in a light and informal way. As if we would be discussing throughout the night, at the candle light, over a good old wine. Dare to open his books. You will never put them down again...Dare to step in. Read on and experience a unique life story. With its immense swings. I will take you to the ups and downs of Flower’s story. Hell and Heaven in one place. Past, present and future combined in one dimension.Inspired by a true life experience.“She was beautiful. Amazing. Gorgeous. Angelic. We didn’t organise too much the details, yet, it was all out of a perfect romance. Calm rays of the sun peeked into the church through the tall windows. To then meet her white dress and create a unique glitter all around. The stone walls that always seemed cold to me, now warmed up when reflecting the smooth sounds of the organ. She was approaching in small steps. Normally I’m against ceremonies and formal events. Not extremely patient either... Yet, in that loving moment I was enjoying every second of it. Her face started revealing itself to me more and more, as she was approaching. Her smiling, joyful face. Always loved her smile. All women are most beautiful when smiling. Their cheeks play along, creating a new harmony. Making them cute and lovable. Flower was maxing out this experience. Her eyes were, to be more precise. She was smiling through her eyes. One could easily see the sparkle of happiness in her smile. The dress, the organ, it all made it even more amazing.- I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life."Frank van der Kok is a Hungarian writer, currently living in Netherlands. Author of “Fights of Your Life” and “Twice”, a series of fictional memoire.Frank van der Kok's dèbut novel, the Fights of Your Life was first released in Hungarian in September 2013, to be then published in April 2014 in English as well. It tells the story of a young woman fighting for her life after a severe car accident. The story of Flower now continues. Only years after recovering from a severe brain damage, Flower is now back in the surgery rooms. To fight the biggest nightmare of our times - cancer. Will she survive? Twice?

The Hope That Starts

You can never have too much music... or mayonnaise. It's sort of been Harrison O'Neil's credo for the better part of his life. At least since he first discovered his love for playing the guitar and developed a taste for gourmet sandwiches. He couldn't pinpoint which one happened first, and it didn't matter to him. Food and music have always been equally important. If there's one thing Zelda Fitzpatrick is good at, it's fandom. She can out-nerd the nerdiest, her devotion knows no bounds. Her love is true, her motives pure. Oh, and she's also a talented freelance photographer, newly hired to go on the road with her favorite band, Double Blind Study. All she has to do is not ruin this opportunity with her plethora of Tolkien references (which are in abundance), or the fan girl inside who has a mind of her own. And she definitely shouldn't fall madly in love with lead guitarist, Harrison O'Neil... who is taken. Unfortunately. Zelda is more than the band's new photographer. She loves Star Trek, Doctor Who, and making gourmet sandwiches. This puts Harrison O'Neil in the very awkward position of loving Zelda's sandwiches—with their perfect ingredients, and impeccable construction, and their ability to make his heart happy without even trying—and being in a relationship with another woman... who thinks he should cut out eating sandwiches entirely. Which one will win out, his heart or his stomach? Is there a difference? This story is an ode to a fan girl. Because, male or female, we all have one inside of us. And sometimes, on the rarest and most wonderful of occasions, the fan girl's dream gets displayed in all of it's beauty. The Double Blind Study series continues. Each book in the series focuses on one band member at a time and they can all be read on their own. If this book were a movie, it would be rated PG-13. **

Metal Fatigue

Metal Fatigue is an anthology of stories relating to prison, incarceration, hopelessness and hope. These are largely first person accounts of survival behind bars and give a visceral look at what it means to do time. The stories present a critical look at the prison system and the stats for those held behind bars. A child lost to the system, a father’s plea for reconnection.Metal Fatigue is an anthology of stories relating to prison, incarceration, hopelessness and hope. These are largely first person accounts of survival behind bars and give a visceral look at what it means to do time. The stories present a critical look at the prison system and the stats for those held behind bars. A child lost to the system, a father’s plea for reconnection.EXCERPT:Jimmy passed his eighteenth birthday locked inside a cold, stinky cell in the obsolete old city jail. The toilet obviously didn’t work, an issue probably for several years… running. He thoughtfully reflected on his dry-humor pun. Besides, no one locked up ever flushes the motherfucking john. Never. Revoltingly putrid fecal matter, left in desperation by prisoners with nowhere else to go, overflowed and formed a vile puddle at a low spot in the frigid concrete floor. The prison smelled like shit. Smelled worse than shit. His own more recent addition was beginning to decay. If Jimmy had been home for his birthday, no doubt his father would’ve treated him to a steak dinner at The Outback; and perhaps a ballgame at the stadium afterword. Instead, Jimmy celebrated with foul-tasting water—grey water reprocessed from sewer waste—and several slices of stale bread upon which a near-microscopic dab of something resembling peanut-butter could be found sticking near the center—if one studied it closely, of course. The rancid bread was always stale in this place, just like the air, thick with mildew and the smell of unwashed bodies. It all mixed with the reeking toilet to produce an odor more disgusting than sweaty armpit pubes set on a smoldering fire.Tonight, for the most part, a stifling quiet lingered throughout the cellblock. The only sounds being the incidental shout of a guard, the muffled moan from a prisoner, or the occasional fart from either. Every so often, a cell door clanked open, followed by scuffling noises signaling a new prisoner’s arrival. Two weeks forever, he’d sat there in solitary now. But he still wasn’t so desperate as other prisoners on the cellblock who would actually shit themselves just for a laugh. Two weeks plus three lonely days, he reminded himself, marking off another day on the wall with the sharp edge of a small stone, chipped away from a section of rotting-old concrete. He made the mark with an awkward jab of his left hand. His right arm hung broken, suspended in a dirty sling he’d torn from an old rag.Sinking down onto the cold concrete slab that served as a bed, Jimmy leaned his head against the wall and shut his eyes. He figured it might be nine o’clock… or thereabout, although he really couldn’t be sure. Maybe ten. His watch had disappeared on intake at R&D receiving the first day, along with all his other personal effects… confiscated for “purposes of security” by the prison R&D guards. Problem was, they’d never listed his expensive Rolex watch on that property receipt they’d forced him to sign under the threat of tossing him in solitary stripped naked.Any questions about time, or anything, for that matter, brought only taunts and trouble from the guards. Especially the big one called ‘Boiler Bob’—so named by the prisoners for those angry-looking boils in evidence on the back and both sides of his incredibly thick neck.“What’s time to a prison roach?” Boiler Bob would mock, his furry broken teeth bared in a cruel laugh. “Hah, I know! I bet you’re impatient for your next fine meal… is that it?” Invariably he and the other guards goaded the prisoners about the food: food so foul even the cockroaches all passed around it in wide arcs.
