A Warrior's Knowledge

With A Warrior’s Path, Davis Ashura introduced readers to Arisa, an ancient world rich with history and myth where Humanity struggles to survive the never-ending battle with the demon Suwraith and Her hordes of Chimeras. Now Ashura’s bestselling epic continues with A Warrior’s Knowledge as Rukh Shektan learns the true meaning of loss…and of hope. “The redemption of the fallen man is neither easy nor quick. It is fraught with hardship and loss, and those who seek to aid someone traveling this twisted path might do best to journey ahead and light the way.” (The Word and the Deed) Rukh Shektan has lost everything: his home, his standing, and his future. He must journey with Jessira to reach her mountain home, the OutCaste city of Stronghold, before winter’s icy snow and winds bar all passages. Their travels test Rukh’s will and hope as Chimeras hound their footsteps, but the most difficult test proves to be Stronghold itself. The city is not as Jessira described. Rector Bryce and Mira Terrell form a reluctant alliance. A secret from his family's past threatens Rector, forcing him to do the bidding of Dar’El Shektan, the ruling ‘El whom Rector had betrayed. Rector and Mira must seek the means to bring down House Shektan’s most bitter rival, Hal’El Wrestiva, the man responsible for Rukh’s banishment. Meanwhile, Bree and Jaresh continue their search for the Sil Lor Kum. Their hunt brings them closer to the truth. Danger lurks, and the Withering Knife murders continue. And unbeknownst to them, Hal’El Wrestiva, the SuDin of the Sil Lor Kum, furthers his own intentions. Above the clouds, watching the world is Suwraith. Her clouded mind is clear for the first time in millennia, and She makes Her own plans. The Sorrow Bringer has learned of Stronghold’s existence. From the AuthorArisa is a world with a long, rich history and complex societies. It can be confusing, which is why there's a great, big glossary in the back. Even as the translator of the discovered text, I find it helpful. About the AuthorDavis Ashura is a legend ... in his own mind. He resides in North Carolina, sharing a house with his wonderful wife who somehow overlooked Davis' eccentricities and married him anyway. As proper recompense for her sacrifice, Davis then unwittingly turned his wonderful wife into a nerd-girl. To her sad and utter humiliation, she knows exactly what is meant by 'Kronos'. Living with them are their two rambunctious boys, both of whom have at various times helped turn Davis' once lustrous, raven-black hair prematurely white (it sure sounds prettier than the dirty gray it actually is). And of course, there are the obligatory strange, strays cats (all authors have cats -- it's required by the union). They are fluffy and black with terribly bad breath. When not working -- nay laboring -- in the creation of works of fiction so grand that hardly anyone has read a single word of them, Davis practices medicine, but only when the insurance companies tell him he can.Visit him at DavisAshura.com and be appalled by the banality of a writer's life.

Three Short Fairytales

In ‘The Dwarf’s Heart’, a dwarf decides that the best way to deal with the heartache of loneliness is by removing the offending organ. In ‘The Leaving Of Princess Laellinon’, a goatherd must explain to the rulers of a neighbouring kingdom that their daughter has abandoned her world for another. In 'Butterfly', a solitary creature who believes she is ugly meets one who views her quite differently. This book contains three short fairytales by G. Wulfing. ‘The Dwarf’s Heart’ is about a dwarf who decides that the best way to deal with the heartache of loneliness is by removing the offending organ. ‘The Leaving Of Princess Laellinon’ is about a goatherd who must explain to the rulers of a neighbouring kingdom that their daughter, the princess who was in hiding with his family, has inexplicably vanished. And ‘Butterfly’ is about a solitary creature who believes she is ugly and worthless – until she meets a well-travelled wyvern who sees her completely differently. 'The Dwarf's Heart' [2,117 words]: There is a dwarf who lives alone. He is a grumpy dwarf; he likes things just so, and no different. And he can’t stand other people. Apparently, however, the increasingly annoying spasms in his heart are caused – allegedly – by loneliness. The solution is obvious: he should remove the faulty organ. Problem solved. And never mind the cost. A very short fairytale. ‘The Leaving Of Princess Laellinon’ [3,284 words]: Coedas the goatherd has a message for the rulers of another country whom he has never met. The king and queen must be told that their cherished daughter, who was in hiding with Coedas’ family, has abandoned her entire world by disappearing into another. And she won’t be coming back. A short story set in a medieval-style fantasy realm. ‘Butterfly’ [4,954 words]: The Chlyh lives all alone, because she is ugly. No one wants to be her friend. She speaks to no one, living in complete solitude. Then one day she meets a beautiful wyvern: a well-travelled stranger who sees her completely differently from the way she sees herself and the way she thought everyone else saw her. A short fairytale about perception, isolation, beauty and love.

Peregrine

This novel won the Mystery Writers of American Edgar Award for Best Novel. Circling high over Rockefeller Center is a peregrine falcon, the most awesome of the flying predators. She awaits a signal from her falconer. It is given: the bird attacks, plummeting from the sky at nearly 200 miles an hour, striking a young woman and killing her instantly. By chance, newscaster Pamela Barrett witnesses the slaying. Her impassioned account of it on television that evening thrills the falconer — a brilliant madman who identifies with his deadly bird and, through her, seeks catharsis. He becomes fascinated with Pam and enmeshes her in a bizarre and deadly scheme even as she finds herself drawn to him by an erotic need she does not understand. As killing follows killing, the terrified city beomes the backdrop of an extraordinary drama. Police and the media engage in cutthroat competition to find the murderer. Two predator birds are pitted in a fight to the death above Central Park. Call girls, rich eccentrics, striving careerists, dealers in the black market for rare birds — all play their roles in this study of secret passion, desire, fulfillment, and ecstasy. The ancient sport of falconry, in which birds are trained to hunt and kill on command, is the key to the spectacular operatic finale. For all its excitement and intricate detail, PEREGRINE is more than a thriller: it is a study of secret passion – desire, fulfillment, ecstasy. In the falconer, in Pam his prey, and in the burnt-out detective who finds in this case a means to his salvation, author WILLIAM BAYER has created vibrant characters each of whom is both hunter and hunted, each of whom fulfills the others in extraordinary ways.
