The Zombie Who Liked Fred Astaire

Story #1: The Zombie Who Liked Fred Astaire - A zombie desires to dance like his hero, Fred Astaire, but first he must find a willing teacher. Story #2: The Goldfish Who Contemplated Life - A sad goldfish dreams of escaping his fish bowl so he can fight zombies, eliminate erectile dysfunction, and meet Justin Bieber. It is the year 2049. John Ennis, a writer and political analyst, finds himself in Medina Hurriya, capital city of Algharb. His goal is a new media series for Global Focus Report, but he quickly finds himself dangerously ensnarled in a struggle against Algharb’s oppressive regime. The story has its roots in the early part of the twenty first century. During that period Europe and more particularly France had entered a period of intense transformation. In addition to the wave of continued immigration from Muslim countries, the sons and daughters of previous generations of immigrants reached maturity. The Muslim population of France reached eleven million. Islam had replaced Protestantism to a very large extent as the second religion of the country.Successive governments had encouraged or condoned immigration, without looking further than their next election, without questioning the changes that were taking place in the world, without taking the decisions necessary to integrate the new arrivals into the mainstream population. The result was a gradual radicalisation of attitudes of both the recent arrivals and the existing population towards each other. Most immigrants felt excluded or discriminated against and many were easily converted to the attitudes of their co-religionists in their countries of origin, who in turn were conditioned by events in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world, where Islam was in conflict with the West. This novel was originally written in 1991 and I have altered relatively little in the story as it is told here. Many of the scenarios have come to be: a Middle Eastern Caliphate, the massive flight of refugees towards Europe, the rise of right wing political parties, encroaching Islam, the spread of communitarism, the retreat of the UK from the EU, and the threat of disintegration of both. The politicians of Europe and the USA are largely to blame for the situation that exists in the Middle East today and the paths that lay ahead for France the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe are fraught with danger.

No One Will Ever Find Out

“I leaned my head against the backseat window and looked up. It was dark and gloomy out there; the sun’s glow was fading behind the distant trees and houses. The cool night winds wailed all around, making the tip of my ears sting. Everything the nuns had said was true: there was a hell, and I was heading directly towards it.”Anxious for school to end and summer to begin, Justine Collins dreams the warm days of freedom away from the classroom, away from the teachers, away from the exams; splashing at the beach, enjoying barbecues on picnics, screaming on roller coasters, and relishing special moments with her family. But doubt lingers as the fear of secrets buried away turn her world upside down when that one night comes to crush her dreams before her summer even begins, and sends her spiraling down a path she could not avoid, no matter how hard she had tried to ignore it. Only when she owns up to her fears does she discover that she is not alone.

Claude and the Henry Moores

"Claude works as a security guard at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto), and he becomes fascinated with the Henry Moore sculptures on display in the gallery. Then entranced, then possessed with an incredible connection with the personality of each sculpture, then convinced that there is an entity trapped within each sculpture..." From the Challenging Destiny review by James Schellenberg."Claude works as a security guard at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto), and he becomes fascinated with the Henry Moore sculptures on display in the gallery. Then entranced, then possessed with an incredible connection with the personality of each sculpture, then convinced that there is an entity trapped within each sculpture..." From the Challenging Destiny review by James Schellenberg.Schellenberg says of the stories in this collection, using Claude as an example: "I liked these stories a great deal. In particular, Wolf does a good job with endings. Since we get a lot of detail about the internal life of the characters, the structure that leads to the ending is most often an epiphany, a moment where all those internal musings or developments come together in a rush, like a plateau before the next ascent begins. Not an “I feel ripped off” artsy ending, but an artsy ending that the story is nicely tailored for." https://www.challengingdestiny.com/reviews/findingcreatures.htm(A short story selection from the collection Finding Creatures & Other Stories by C. June Wolf, published by Wattle and Daub Books, 2008.)

Sanity is Boring

This debut collection of poems and prose presents an eclectic view of a literary career in its infancy. Drawing on the universal consciousness of love, hate, insanity and the Reader's Digest, everyone will be able to find something of value in these pages. Read the customer reviews to see what others have said!Poetry may inspire directly, or it may do so by first challenging the reader. These two poems, "Why a Hermit?" and "The Truth-Tellers" don't, in any obvious way, point the way out of predicaments. Instead, they draw attention to what is wrong with the picture of society.Whether it's the American, Canadian, English, Australian Dream, or any of a variety of other national dreams, competition clearly becomes negative and overall destructive when democratic government itself is subverted for the sake of connected individuals' personal gain. That is the backdrop to these two poems. What occurs in each is testimony to the frailty of social fabrics, and the very real consequences of a society poisoned by cruel and negative competitiveness. The ways out are not pointed to; the only purpose of these poems is to make an argument that there are influences on our society that are destroying individuals, and our collective future. No adult-only content.
