In France, Eric Miles Williamson is known as “The Erudite Bukowski.” In America, he has been called “The Last Beat.”
Best known for his internationally praised and stunning novels of the blue-collar world, with the publication of 14 Fictional Positions, Williamson now shows his readers he is much more than a chronicler of the lives of workers and America’s downtrodden. Williamson may have triumphantly captured the blue-collar experience in his novels,East Bay Grease, Two-Up, and Welcome to Oakland, but 14 Fictional Positions shows us that he, above all, is a painstakingly careful author deeply entrenched in the history of his medium. Former editor of Chelsea and Gulf Coast, now editor of American Book Review, The Texas Review, and Boulevard, longtime member of the Board of Directors of the National Book Critics Circle, and a college teacher since 1984, Williamson may have humble beginnings, but he is now a powerful force in America’s literary establishment.
Each of the stories in 14 Fictional Positions snaps with precision and intelligence. In “Hope, Among Other Vices and Virtues,” we find two men drinking “in manly tandem” whose women loathe them as much as they love them. “I love you,” says Agnes. “You are everything in a man I want to change.” “H A N G M A N,” set evidently in Brazil, weaves “a leaf-fringed legend” of two lovers whose lives are dictated by the formal arrangement of words and literary references. In “Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young” Williamson shows himself to be an aphorist of the caliber of George Bernard Shaw, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Oscar Wilde, both witty and erudite. “The Teachings of Don B.” is a ghost story unlike any other in the English language, humorous and sad, insightful and playful, an homage to the foremost of Williamson’s many prominent mentors, who include Harold Bloom, Denis Donoghue, Ronald Sukenick, Jacques Derrida, Edward Dorn, and, of course, the ghost of Donald Barthelme.
Twenty-five years in the making, 14 Fictional Positions is a landmark short story collection, and confirmation that Eric Miles Williamson is an author whose energy, talent, and wisdom place him among the very best authors at work today in America. Views: 139

This good ole boy learns that alls fair in love and war. What happens when all of these lives cross paths? Whose destiny will change and who will get their happily ever after?About the AuthorI grew up in a really small town in Missouri. Very similar to the fictional town I wrote about in my novel. I moved to the big city right after I graduated. I work full-time and I am mom to a beautiful little girl. I started writing in October when a group I am in had a prologue contest. I didn't win the contest, but everyone who read my prologue asked for more of my story. I decided I had to finish it and get these characters that were in my head out on paper. During the writing process it became clear that this was going to be more than one novel. It had to be a series. I have at least 2 more novels planned for the Destined Series. I also have an idea for a YA novel that stems from one of the characters in Destined to Change...hint, hint. When I was asked to write this bio I explained that I am really boring and it would be really short...so, that's about all there is to know about me. I love music and honestly couldn't have written this book without my Spotify playlist. I am kinda obsessed with frogs (not real ones) and office supplies are my downfall! I could spend my whole paycheck at the stationery store...boring, didn't I already say that? lol Also, I am slightly addicted to Facebook and Voxer. Please message me on either one...I would love to hear from all of you. Views: 139

Stag Doo by Al Lester, the master of the hunting genre, is full of rip-roaring yarns for those with a good keen sense of humour and a love for New Zealand's wild outdoors. Once described as 'Barry Crump meets Fred Dagg', 'Big Al' Lester is the modern-day master of the hunting genre. His books are for those with a good keen sense of humour and a love for New Zealand's wild outdoors. 'Many times I have sat by a campfire with its coarse smoke etching into my eyes and tears streaming down my face. The tears not caused by the smoke, though, but by laughing so hard at the oddball, strange, hilarious or simply outright bizarre yarns told by my hunting mates. It never ceases to amaze me how readily my hunting colleagues and others dob in their mates to disclose their mishaps, balls-ups, cunning plans and frequent disasters. Each story is told with great relish, and often, I suspect, with liberal helpings of embellishment. For every story recounted, the often embarrassed... Views: 139
