The Haunted Corn Maze

Every Halloween, thousands of kids across the nation frequent "haunted" corn mazes looking for a good scare. But for a group of teenagers in rural Kansas, an innocent night out turns into a horrific ordeal. And it's up to one detective to solve the case and figure out what's really going on at the corn maze.Did Norse explorers journey to Minnesota in 1362, and carve a 200 lb stone with a runic message found by a Swedish farmer in 1898? Or, was it an elaborate hoax? The controversy has been swirling for 115 years. The Kensington Rune Stone remains an enigma because, while it cannot be proven authentic without corroborating evidence, neither can it be proven a forgery.“Far to the West of Vinland,” is a scenario that I believe to be consistent with the best evidence. In its fictionalized human context, it is a story of money, power and pride, and how they combined to produce the Kensington Rune Stone. For objective investigators, perhaps it can illuminate how some apparently anomalous pieces of the KRS puzzle, may have fallen into place. I leave its relative believability up to you.

The Chance

In The Chance, New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury delves deeply into a theme that resonates with us all: It’s never too late for those willing to take a chance. Years ago, the day before Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend Nolan sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other, and sealed them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return eleven years later and read them. But now, as that date arrives, much has changed. Ellie, bereft of the faith she grew up with, is a single mom living in a tired apartment trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches television to catch a glimpse of her old friend —Nolan, now an NBA star, whose terrible personal tragedies fueled his faith and athletic drive in equal measure. But Nolan also suffers from a transcendent loneliness that nothing has ever eased.

Glitch

This story won't bring back the people who've disappeared. It won't bring comfort to the people who've lost their loved ones. But maybe it will show people what's at stake, and why we're all in danger. Stay alert. Stay awake. And watch out for blue eyes, shining in the dark.It started with my professor going missing. But as I searched for him, I found out he wasn't the only one to vanish. On April 24th, 2012, six people from Toronto and Etobicoke disappeared within twenty-four hours. No one has ever seen them since then. This is the story of Sam Flautt, the first of the six to disappear. It is told through Sam's point of view, reconstructed from interviews, recordings, and fragments of journal entries.I'm not sure if this story is true. For the record, I hope it's not. But, just in case, I will stay awake. I will watch out for blue eyes, shining in the dark.

Pacific 41

Mix a ship out of control and an active oil rig, and then stir gently with a hurricane. With luck nothing, but when you don't have luck you have something interesting. Then add in the fact that it's almost a mile deep in the ocean. A short story of what could be, and maybe someday will happen.NASA helps SETI locate the origin of an extraterrestrial radio signal to a human habitat on the far side of the moon. These human inhabitants have lived in a subterranean cave system for millions of years. Their social structure is very unlike that on Earth. Differing from the usual adventure stories dealing with aliens, this science fiction narrative is serious, short and precise and has a novel presentation of technology, philosophy and ideology. The narrative is blended in a mix of interesting concepts for readers of all ages with an interest in science fiction and philosophy. The really remarkable and singular feature of the book unravels as the soft and gentle mannerisms underlying the basic nature of these aliens come to light in the later hapters.
