A Well-Tempered Heart

The sequel to the international best-selling novel The Art of Hearing Heartbeats.  * Almost ten years have passed since Julia Win came back from Burma, her father’s native country. Though she is a successful Manhattan lawyer, her private life is at a crossroads; her boyfriend has recently left her and she is, despite her wealth, unhappy with her professional life. Julia is lost and exhausted. One day, in the middle of an important business meeting, she hears a stranger’s voice in her head that causes her to leave the office without explanation. In the following days, her crisis only deepens. Not only does the female voice refuse to disappear, but it starts to ask questions Julia has been trying to avoid. Why do you live alone? To whom do you feel close? What do you want in life? Interwoven with Julia’s story is that of a Burmese woman named Nu Nu who finds her world turned upside down when Burma goes to war and calls on her two young sons to be child soldiers. This spirited sequel, like The Art of Hearing Heartbeats*, explores the most inspiring and passionate terrain: the human heart.

Falls the Shadow

Falls the Shadow consists of twin short stories, Falls the Shadow and La Feria, which, although they have defined identities, share a common heritage and are in many ways inseparable.Falls the Shadow consists of twin short stories, Falls the Shadow and La Feria, which, although they have defined identities, share a common heritage and are in many ways inseparable.Falls the Shadow, the first of the two, is set on the North Atlantic coast, whereas La Feria is set in Southern Spain, in Andalusia. It is a journey which takes us from the harsh, pessimistic climes of the north to the gentler, more optimistic region of the south. Though more than a geographical journey it is a philosophical one. We counterbalance the northern work ethic, the severity of the notion that life is a ruler by which we will be finally measured, with that of life as a gift, a celebration, a brief but intense gypsy dance. In La Feria we are shown the almost Oriental element present in Andalusian Flamenco philosophy, where grief demands a counterpart of happiness, where joy exists because of and despite sorrow.

Vampin Box Set (7-9)

Once a person is turned, they become more 'animal.' Follow the girls as they struggle to keep control of their new instincts and their new lives while protecting the lost children they saved from the streets. This is a collection of three short stories with a common thread of the supernatural. "The Man with Three Names" is unquestionably "literary" fiction in that it is carefully crafted to be confusing, and leave the reader to decide what it means. "684 Feet" is more light-hearted, except for the attempted suicide foiled by what may or may not be an angel. "Butterfly" is a flash fiction piece that is as insightful as it is is devastating. I have included this piece because no one seems interested in publishing it, and I feel it illustrates my skills excellently.Included in the book are coupons for my upcoming book "Love Transcends" that I hope to release for Valentines day, and my current novel "Murphy's Second Death." The book is free, and the coupons will save you 50%. Enjoy.

They Look Down on Me

egon yes stars as egon no in this cross-genre poem-story mashup. We asked some of Australia's top fantasy and science fiction authors to select two of their stories tied together by a single theme and to write an introduction on how they had explored that theme — to give some insight into their writing and how they see the big issues. We also paired the writers with Australia's top SF artists, so that each publication also showcases the illustrator. Then we released the publications in pairs. The result is the Aurealis Duos series. In "Terrorism", Jack Dann, an expat New Yorker and multi-award winning SF author who eats Vegemite with an American accent says, "I didn't feel patriotic the morning that the towers fell... I just felt that someone had burned down my house... the only way I could get my arms around the subject was to write about... us. No treatise on terrorism and suicide bombing here, just two stories that are set on the other side of the looking glass."
