Ngaio Marsh was one of the queens (she has been called the empress) of England's Golden Age of mystery fiction. And in true Golden Age fashion, her oeuvre opens with, yes, a country-house party between the two world wars – servants bustling, gin flowing, the gentlemen in dinner jackets, the ladies all slink and smolder. Even more delicious: The host, Sir Hubert Handesley, has invented a new and especially exciting version of that beloved parlor entertainment, The Murder Game.

When MI6 ask him to trace Vanessa Tan, a lieutenant with the Royal Logistics Corps who failed to report for her return flight to Afghanistan, Harry instinctively feels it’s a mission to avoid. But when he learns of the involvement of his former boss, Henry Paulton – the man who tried to have him killed – he agrees to take the job, and events soon take an unexpected turn . .Review"Magson offers up his usual taut, keep-'em-guessing thriller packed with action and unexpected twists, and guaranteed to keep espionage aficionados on the edge of their seats."Booklist Reviews"... moves Harry's story along and will keep readers coming back for more."Publishers Weekly"Well constructed and exciting, with plenty of strong dialogue and plot twists to keep the reader guessing, and probably guessing wrong."KIRKUS REVIEWS From the Author'Deception' is the 3rd in the Harry Tate series, and a continuation of his search for Paulton, his former MI5 boss who tried to have him terminated (in *'Red Station'). I enjoyed researching and writing this book. It involves a rarely covered topic - military deserters - and I wanted to bring in an aspect of the modern military that not many of us give much thought to: the fact that many serving personnel are very skilled, highly trained and educated, and carry a great deal of valuable information in their heads, which certain enemies would pay highly for. It was this fact that gave me a fresh new angle for Harry's story, while remaining very topical (and keeping him focussed on catching up with Paulton - although you'll have to read the book to find out if he does that or not!) I hope it makes for as a good a read as it was fun to write! **
