The chills are creeping up your neck, the
unknown watch you from a breath away, and the long dead seem closer than
ever…In the modern age, our five senses are constantly bombarded by the
world around us: flashing screens, loud noises, barking, yelling, horn honking,
billboards, bustling crowds, arrogant bosses, and the constant hustle of a busy
schedule. It's hard to even think of having a moment alone. But it is when we
are alone, that our sixth sense has a chance to surface. I invite you to take a
moment, or two, for yourself to sit down, dim the lights and spend some time
with the strange and the weird. Sift through some stories that will have you
looking into dark corners, listening to the creeks of the floor, and wondering
if the movement of your curtain is the work of something other than a
breeze.Enjoy!~Earl DuncanFirefly & Wisp Editor Views: 66
Into the Wild meets Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man--a lyrical memoir of a life changed in an instant and of the perilous beauty of searching for identity in solitude On a clear May afternoon at the end of his junior year at Harvard, Howard Axelrod played a pick-up game of basketball. In a skirmish for a loose ball, a boy's finger hooked behind Axelrod's eyeball and left him permanently blinded in his right eye. A week later, he returned to the same dorm room, but to a different world. A world where nothing looked solid, where the distance between how people saw him and how he saw had widened into a gulf. Desperate for a sense of orientation he could trust, he retreated to a jerry-rigged house in the Vermont woods, where he lived without a computer or television, and largely without human contact, for two years. He needed to find, away from society's pressures and rush, a sense of meaning that couldn't be changed in an instant. From the... Views: 66

Reviewed by Lori M for Readers Favorite (excerpt): After reading this book, I'm now going to be looking around me all the time to see whether aliens exist among us! What a fun read! Poor Bob, scheduled to lead a history-making mission to Mars, suddenly finds out that there's more going on than meets the eye.
Well-written, this book was a light, easy-to-read piece of fiction. At least I hope it was fiction. The author was able to create likeable characters and provide just enough about each of their personalities and backgrounds to set the tone but not too much as to just be racking up the word count.
The world has always been filled with questions about whether or not aliens or other creatures inhabited the Earth before humans and this book masterfully plays on those questions. I actually visited Roswell, NM, a few years back to check out the alien files and investigate more about Area 51, Hangar 13, and other urban legends.
This book would entertain anyone from teenagers to adults who want to explore the as-yet unanswered questions about whether or not we're alone as the only living beings in the universe. I give this book four green thumbs up.
