'Twas the night before Halloween, and Fisher Roberts wishes it was over, not being a fan of this or any other holiday. But he tolerates it because his roommate/best friend Hunter Long takes a childish glee in all things Halloween. And Fisher has a vested interest in keeping Hunter happy. If only he could find the nerve to tell his childhood friend that he loves him and has for a very long time.
Fisher thinks Hunter is carrying things a bit far this year, though. First Hunter claims to be a vampire, and he just won't let the silly joke go. Then he forces Fisher to go to a costumed Halloween party which Fisher would rather avoid, especially when he realizes where it's being held and whose house it is. Things at Fisher's job might just be going south, too, when he receives a mysterious summons to report to the editor's office the next morning. And then Fisher goes and does something stupid -- like kissing Hunter!
Bad leads to worse when Fisher ends up at the Halloween party from Hell, and he learns something that threatens to destroy his and Hunter's relationship forever. Running from his fears, Fisher encounters a strange young man with an unusual resemblance to Leonardo di Caprio, who shows him things he never realized before, truths about his life and the people in it.
Can Fisher find his way back to Hunter, and can he find the courage to do what his heart wishes? Views: 12

From Publishers WeeklyIn the fifth installment of Hinton's Hope Springs series (after Christmas Cake), the town of Hope Springs, N.C., is abuzz over a round of weddings among the series cast of friends. In this flowery confection, pastor Charlotte Stewart is living n New Mexico, but having trouble committing to her new beau; working as director of a shelter for battered women, she fears she may fall prey to the same pitfalls as her clients. Meanwhile, back in Hope Springs, nosy friend Beatrice Witherspoon is busying herself trying to reunite her married-but-separated friends Jessie and James Jenkins. Bea's plans fizzle when she discovers that her daughter is secretly engaged—and sending out invites. An unfortunately underserved plot line finds Louise Fisher, a lesbian, agreeing to marry the widower husband of the group's late member Margaret (who died in the last volume). Though at times brashly unsophisticated (old-fashioned recipes like clam dip and party mix fill space between chapters), Hinton's down-home charm carries the light, feel-good story with ease. IN 2004, AT THE AGE OF FORTY-EIGHT, DR. DAVE HNIDA, a family physician from Littleton, Colorado, volunteered to be deployed to Iraq and spent a tour of duty as a battalion surgeon with a combat unit. In 2007, he went backthis time as a trauma chief at one of the busiest Combat Support Hospitals (CSH) during the Surge. In an environment that was nothing less than a modern-day M*A*S*H, the doctors main objective was simple: Get em in, get em out. The only CSH staffed by reservists who tended to be older, more-experienced doctors disdainful of authoritythe 399th soon became a medevac destination of choice because of its high survival rate, an astounding 98 percent. This was fast-food medicine at its best: working in a series of tents connected to the occasional run-down building, Dr. Hnida and his fellow doctors raced to keep the wounded alive until they could be airlifted out of Iraq for more extensive repairs. Here the Hippocratic Oath superseded that of the... Views: 12
