Nearly Nero

Based on the Nero Wolfe series—one of the longest running, critically acclaimed, and bestselling series in the crime fiction world—a collection of Nero Wolfe–inspired crime stories from one of the most prominent crime writers of his era. From 1934 until his death in 1976, Rex Stout entertained the world with the exploits of Nero Wolfe—the eccentric, organ-breeding detective genius—as related by Archie Goodwin, his irreverent legman. Nearly Nero is an affectionate, tongue-in-cheek homage to Stout's greatest creation. Claudius Lyon is a fanatic admirer of Wolfe. He has retrofitted himself and his townhouse after Wolfe's and has hired a man named Arnie Woodbine to serve as his Archie Goodwin. However, Lyon's naiveté and Woodbine's larcenous nature constantly put them in jeopardy—more than Wolfe and Goodwin ever faced. Somehow the imitator manages to find a solution from every problem. But can he and his assistant...

My Valiant Knight

In the hands of New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell, the Scottish Highlands come alive with treachery, intrigue, and unforgettable love...Able to ride, wield a sword, and throw a dagger as well as any man, flame-haired Ainslee of Kengarvey is more warrior than lady. Yet even her awesome skill as a horsewoman won't help her outrace the knight who pursues her. An Anglo-Norman who has won favor with the King, Sir Gabel de Amalville must prove his loyalty by crushing the rebellious MacNairn clan. Seizing the youngest daughter of the chief gives him a necessary advantage. But having sequestered Ainslee in his isolated castle keep, he soon finds himself the prisoner of a passion he never could have foreseen. Now, as the shadow of war descends upon the Highlands, Gabel will follow his heart into battle--for the love of the sensual woman who has captured him, mind, body and soul. . .Praise for Hannah Howell and her Highland novels"The pages fly...escapades and sizzling love scenes to keep every reader satisfied." --Romantic Times"Few authors portray the Scottish highlands as lovingly or colorfully." --Publishers Weekly "Another classic." --Romantic Times From Publishers WeeklyAinslee MacNairn is captured and held for ransom, survives a murder attempt, an abduction and a seduction and commits her first two homicides-all less than halfway through this early-13th-century romance set in the Scottish Highlands by the author of Only for You. Not that things are all bad: her captor is the handsome Norman Gabel de Amalville, who's just too good to be true or, at the very least, far better than her sadistic father. Which still doesn't excuse the paltry couple of pages it takes for abductor and abductee to discover a cozy relationship. Howell's strong suit is her grasp of historical detail (though rarely any historical personage or event). Her weakness is in pacing her narrative and in occasionally clunky dialogue "Howbeit, she has adamantly claimed that she understands that her father has brought this fate upon himself."
