“What the fuck you doing here Unc?” Ca’Shon asked.

“I’m Sister Thomas’ pastor, nephew,” my father-in-law returned “I’m here to pray with the family. What else?” He replied with a slick smirk on his face.

“And? How you up all bright and early to see about a member of her family? Would you be here if Nicco got shot?” Chaos spat.

I knew where that conversations would end up, so I interrupted. “Ca’Shon please, not in front of Kah,” I insisted. Chaos hesitated and then took Kah out of my arms and walked away.

“Who is that?” Rita asked with a frown on her face.

I was truly not in the mood to deal with her evil ass. I had respect for my elders, but the way this bitch treated my best friend made her one of my least favorite people.

“My cousin, I mean Nicco’s cousin,” I said, with my eyes locked on my father-in-law.

“Whatever, where is Cayane?” Rita hissed. “I’m dying to see what kinda ghetto mess her ass is in now,” she said.

I put a hand on my forehead, because I was a second away from cussing her the fuck out. “Rita there was a shooting, Ca’Shon just barely rushed her here, so we don’t know anything.”

“Well I’m going to see what the hell is going on?” she shrieked and headed towards the nurse’s station.

I eyed my father-in-law down and then shook my head at him. “What’s going on daddy? How did you know about Cay?” I asked him hoping that Nikki called him and he wasn’t actually walking in with Rita.

He cleared his throat. “Hold on Ash, it’s not what you think. I had just dropped by when Sister Thomas got the call from Nicco.”

I shook my head again. “This early,” I asked in disbelief?

“Yes daughter-in-law, what are you implying?”

“I’m not implying anything dad, but Nikki will walk up in here any second and Nicco is on his way. If either of them sees you here with Rita, your son will do more than just imply,” I said.

“Well they can think what they want, however I know my son and I refuse to allow him to make a scene up in this hospital. I am here doing my duty as a man of God.”

“Yes, neither of us wants that,” I said. He went over to a ranting Rita at the nurse’s station and said something and then he hurried to make his exit, but not before he lightly touched her hand and the small of her back in an inappropriate way I thought. Not having enough time to address it, I was relieved that he was gone before Nikki walked in and before my husband had arrived. It would have been a fist fight if Nicco would have seen his father with Rita that early in the damn morning and touching her the way he just did.

When Nikki walked in, I asked her to take Kah to the cafeteria to get some juice and something to eat if he was hungry. Rita was so damn loud, yelling at the staff, I hurried over to try and calm her down. “Momma Rita, please calm down,” I said.

“I will not calm down. I need to know what’s going on with my daughter!” she declared.

“And I told you as soon as we know, we’ll let you know,” the nurse said giving Rita an irritated look. Rita let out a hiss and then sucked her teeth.

“Fine!” she said and finally went over to the waiting area. Ca’Shon was in a chair with his head laid back and I knew not to press him or say a word. Chaos was a crazy nigga and rude on a regular and although he had never unleashed on me, I didn’t want that day to be today, so I just sat down beside him with no words.

“You must be the thug ass reason my daughter is up in here,” Rita snapped standing in front of Chaos. He didn’t even look up at her, so I quickly jumped in.

“Momma Rita, please let’s just sit,” I suggested.

She rolled her eyes, but sat by me anyway. After waiting for a while Nicco finally made it and we all sat and tried to be patient, but Rita keep bugging the nurse’s until they threatened to throw her out of there. With that she headed to the cafeteria. Not even five minutes after she had disappeared down the hall the doctor came out.

She gave us all an update and before I could ask, Ca’Shon said, “When can we see her?”

“You can see her now. Right now only two people can go back there until she is taken up to her room.”

He looked at me. “You and Nicco should go,” he suggested, but I saw something in my cousin’s hazel eyes that I had never seen before and that was fear.

“No you go. Nicco and I will go and get Rita, Nikki and Kah and we’ll go in when she is in her room.”

“Good looking Ash,” he said and then followed the doctor through the doors. Nicco and I headed out to find the rest of the family.

  Tam

“Hold on Nicco,” I yelled and ran back to my room. I shook Juice’s ass and he stirred out of his sleep.

“What the fuck Tam?” he said.

“Shhhhhh,” I said in a panic. “Look nigga Nicco is at the door and if he catches you here yo’ ass is muthafuckin’ grass.”

His eyes grew larger than saucers and Juice hopped up like the house was on fire. “Fuck!” he said and scrambled for his shit.

“Get your shit and get in my closet, so I can get rid of him,” I told him and then I hurried to the door. “Brother-in-law, why so damn early?”

“Because I got shit to do,” he said coming in. “I even missed my wife’s breakfast to get this water situation out the way,” he said.

“Awww bro this could have waited,” I said nervously. My heart was beating out of my got-damn chest.

“Nah, I figured I’d square you away before I start my day.”

“Okay,” I said trying to sound cool, because I was so scared that Juice was going to be the reason my new place was going to become a crime scene, because for sure Nicco would send his ass to the morgue if he caught him there. I followed Nicco to the kitchen and he opened the door to my laundry room where the hot water tank was. I nervously made small talk while he pressed a few buttons messing around with the settings.

“Okay, I see what the problem is. The temperature wasn’t set high enough,” he said and pressed a few more buttons. “This should work within a couple of minutes,” he said and then went to my kitchen sink. He turned on the water and let it run for a few moments. “Yeah, there we go, it’s warming up a little bit,” he said.

“Man that was fast Nicco, thanks so much,” I said hoping he’d leave. I needed him as far away from my place as possible.

“Let me check the bathrooms and then I’ll get out of here,” he said and my heart stopped.

“No, no, Nicco, I’m sure they are fine,” I said now probably visibly shaking. I didn’t want him to walk into my room. My bed was a mess and I was sure there were condom wrappers on my nightstand. Fuck!

“No, no, no let me make sure shit is all good before I leave Miss I don’t want no strange man up in here,” he joked.

“Nicco really, I’m sure it’s all good,” I insisted following him to my bathroom. I stood at the door as he checked the sink and then the tub. He was about to head to my bedroom and I thought I’d pass the fuck out, but then his phone rang. He dug into his pocket to retrieve his cell.

“Hey baby,” he said and I let out the biggest breath. I couldn’t stand my sister’s ass and hated she couldn’t let him be at my place for all of five minutes before she was calling his fucking phone, but that time I was super happy that she did. “Hold on, slow down,” he said. The disgruntled look on his face made me pause and I wondered what the hell was going on. “Wait, wait Nikki, where are you? Where is Ashlee,” he asked? I knew something had happened, because I could hear Nikki’s voice from where I was standing.

“Oh shit, okay,” he said heading towards the door.

“Nicco, what’s going on?” I asked, and he held up a finger.

“Ash, baby, calm down and tell me what’s going on,” he said. I stood there now concerned with what was happening. I couldn’t wait until he ended the call so I could know what had happened. I wondered was it street business, his parents, Chaos, all kinds of shit w
as running through my head.

“I’m on my way!” he said and then ended the call.

“Nicco, what the fuck bro?” I asked, because it was clear that he was upset.

“There was a shooting last night at Cay’s and kids were killed and Ash doesn’t know if Cay and Kah are okay.”

I covered my mouth. “Oh shit!” I said. I couldn’t stand that bitch, but I adored Kah and to think they were hurt had me shook. “Do you want me to go with you?” I asked and wished I could take those words back. I couldn’t leave Juice up in my crib.

“Nah, I don’t have time to wait,” he said, but before he walked out the door his phone rang again. “Yes,” he answered. “Okay I’ll call them and I’ll be there soon,” he said and hung up.

  “What now?”

“Cay is at Ingalls,” he said.

  “And Kah?” I asked.

“I don’t know yet,” he said and ran out the door. I rushed to lock my door and ran into my bedroom. I snatched opened the closet door and scared ass Juice was still naked, posted against the wall.

“Damn nigga you ain’t even dressed yet?” I said in disbelief.

“Shit Tam, I was trying to stay as quiet as possible.”

“Well nigga come yo’ ass up outta this closet so I can get dressed. You gotta bounce because some shit is going down with Cay,” I said and I walked back over to my bed.

He dropped his shit on the floor and walked over to me with his dick semi erect and chuckled a bit. “That bitch alright. Now she got her new nigga rollin’ around wit’ my damn son.”

  “Come again,” I said.

“I went through her place last night and confronted her, shots rang out, and some bitch ass nigga tried to get at me, but I got up outta there though.”

“What the fuck Juice, you just left her there. What about your son?”

“My son wasn’t there. I followed her inside and she was by herself and I couldn’t care less what happens to that bitch and I’m getting my son back. That nigga she wit’ tryna be my son’s daddy, gon’ catch a bullet too.”

“Wait, wait, wait nigga, you talkin’ about Chaos. He and Cay together now?” I inquired.

“I don’t know that pretty muthafuckas name,” he barked and then started massaging my titties from behind. I needed to get dressed, but one more dose of dick wouldn’t hurt. So I didn’t resist him. I didn’t want Cay dead, I wasn’t that much of a hater on that bitch, but I was in no hurry to get to the hospital. Since Juice confirmed that Kah was alright, I allowed him to fuck the shit outta me again. That black and sexy big dick nigga had me up against the wall banging the fuck outta my shit and I was screaming out his name like it was tattooed on my pussy lips.

By the second round, the box of three condoms were gone, because we had used the other two the night before, so I let him hit it raw. I was on the pill, so me riding that dick bare was a bonus, because Juice dick was like a magic stick. When I say this brother could fuck, I mean he could fuck. That shit felt so electric and when we finally finished our business I texted Ash to see what was going on while Juice was in the shower. When she didn’t reply, I was about to text Nikki, but my doorbell rang. I was sure my family was tending to the Cay situation, so I grabbed my robe and went to answer it. It was O’ so I let her in.

“Hey girl,” I said when she walked in without me inviting her ass and she went straight for the sofa and sat.

“Hey Tam, what’s going on. I’ve been trying to get a hold of Ash and Cay, there was a shooting on her block according to the news and no one’s answering, do you know what’s going on?”

“I don’t have all the details, but they out at Ingalls. I texted Ash, but she not replying.”

“I’ve texted her too. I mean we all girls, but them bitches act like they blood sisters,” she said.

“True, that’s why I don’t fuck wit’em,” I said agreeing. Ash and Cay acted as if they had come up outta the same pussy.

“Well I fuck wit’em, because they my girls, but all this keeping me outta the loop shit and secrets getting’ old.”

“I know that’s real,” I said and then Juice walked into my living room without a shirt.

“I thought that was yo’ ho’ ass voice,” he spat.

“What the fuck Nigga?” O’ said.

“Calm down O’,” I said. I didn’t want her to trip because he was there.

“No bitch,” she said and stood. “You on this shit now nigga?” she asked.

I wonder what she meant. She knew I didn’t give two fucks about Cay.

“O’ gon’ wit’ dat noise,” he said. “I ain’t hit yo’ raggedy ass pussy, since Kah was in diapers.”

My mouth dropped. “You used to fuck with him O’?”

“Don’t act surprised, that’s my fucking baby daddy,” she shot at me.

  “Aw’fuckin’righty then,” I said.

“Look boo, I’m hungry. What you got up in here to eat?” Juice asked me.

“Not shit. I just moved in.”

“Get dress so we can go get something. I’m starving,” he said.

I looked at Olivia and she got the hint. “No worries,” she said and moved towards the door. “Later Tam, and fuck yo’ lame old ass Juice!” she barked and then rolled her eyes at him and he smirked. It was a little disturbing to hear that he had fucked around with Olivia, hell especially that they had a kid together, but I couldn’t take my pussy back, so I locked the door and went to get dressed and we went to Nookies to eat.

  Cayane

I woke up to the sounds of beeping and voices in the distance. I blinked and tried to sit up, but I felt a sting in my arm and a throbbing in my shoulder. No matter how many times I blinked the room remained dark. My head was banging like the beat of a drum, but I ignored that shit and continued to try and sit up straight. The last thing I remembered was the sound of car tires screeching and the rat a tat from guns, so many guns. “Oh my God Kah, baby, where are you?” I cried out loud, terrified that my son was hurt. I didn’t even know where the hell I was let alone where he was. Ignoring the pain, I jumped my ass out of that bed and when my bare feet hit the cold ass hard floor and my legs gave out sending me crashing to the floor.

That’s when I remembered his face, Juice was with me. Did he try and kill me? Remembering what he tried to do to me made me panic, and thinking about him near my son made my heart race. My eyes teared up as I tried to lift my body off of the floor, but the pain in my left shoulder was unbearable. “Somebody, help me,” I finally was able to get out. I needed to get off of that cold ass floor and get something to take the throbbing pain away from my damn shoulder. But all of that after I found my son. A second later, the curtains flew open and it was him.

“Cay what the fuck you doing ma,” I heard his voice as I felt strong arms lift me off the floor and place me back in my bed. I just knew in that moment I had to be dead, because Chaos left me weeks ago and never looked back. I told him to, yes, but my heart broke in the process. Being a single mom meant always putting Kah first, even above my own wants, needs and desires. He kissed my forehead and held me to his chest and instantly I began to calm down and my heart started to slow. He held onto tight until I exhaled a small sigh of relief and the he let me settle into the tiny ass hospital bed. When I was settled he held my hand tight as fuck.

“Kah,” I managed to get out. I knew he was with my mom before the shooting, but something in me needed to know that my baby was safe. Juice could have gotten to him while he was with Rita. I could cross over to the other side or whatever after I knew he was ok and with his God parents.

“He is good Cay, so don’t worry. Soon you will get to see him. Everyone is here, and as soon as they get you into a room I promise I’ll bring him in to see you.” I nodded and let the air out of my chest. “Do you remember what happened?” His voice held a sense of urgency that made me question if this was the end for real. Suddenly there was a bright light, it was blinding and a chipper voice was suddenly next
to me.

“We are glad to see you awake Miss Thomas. We have a room for you. I’m going to check your vitals and ask you a couple of questions okay,” she said. I nodded yes, but I needed her to tone down the cheerfulness in her voice and wipe that stupid big ass grin off her face. I knew she wasn’t laid up in a hospital bed like I was, but she acted like she hit the fucking lotto or something. Annoyed at her upbeat demeanor I answered all of her questions as best I could, because all I wanted to do was to get to my son.

After she explained that the doctor would be up to my room to tell me about the injuries I had sustained, she put the pain medication into my IV. She then assured me that someone would be back soon to take me to my room. I listened intently, but I had no plans to stay there. “Thank you, but I really need to leave now.” I tried to scoot forward, but the both of them refused to let me get up out of that damn bed.

“We need you to lie back down. You have a gunshot wound in your left shoulder and a mild concussion and there is no way the doctor is going to release you ma’am. You are lucky you didn’t bleed to death. If you hadn’t gotten here when you did, you’d be dead,” she admonished. “Now we need to keep you here for observation for several days to make sure that you do not have any serious head trauma or infections to the gunshot wound.”

My head was spinning hearing that I almost died, all because I wouldn’t accept help from my friends, then I suddenly remembered Kah and thanked God he was with my mom. I thanked God Kah wasn’t home, how would I have kept him safe. How would I keep him safe now? “I need a phone,” I demanded as I allowed my body to sink back into the bed. I was weak I didn’t remember ever feeling like this before. It was like my body was fighting against me. “I really need to call my son. I have to hear his voice.” I could tell my eyes were wild as I searched the room for my phone or one I could use.
