  “Get down!” he heard Istarion shout, just as something—or multiple somethings—wrapped themselves around his legs and torso. They were whips, made of the deepest black leather, and they came from the red light of the Ungol realm.

  “Breach! Incursion!” Terak heard Istarion shouting in a thin, wailing voice as he was pulled back toward the red light of the ritual Circle.

  The Flowers! Terak hissed as he threw the three large yellow blooms at Istarion, knowing that he couldn’t fight and save the rare healing herbs at the same time. And someone has to heal Reticula! he thought as the image of the ritual room started to fade in front of him, as the burning reds of the Ungol realm grew stronger and brighter.

  Distantly, he heard a smash, like a door being pulled from its hinges, as a four-legged shape bounded into the vanishing ritual room and leapt without hesitation into the portal after Terak.

  It was the dog-form of the Mordhuk. It had found a way home.
