His shoulders shook a little and she wondered if he was about to have some sort of fit, and then he burst out laughing. Well, that wasn’t the reaction she’d been hoping for, but he hadn’t exactly said no either. She waited until his merriment was under control and then placed her hands on her hips.

“Is that a yes or no?”

“Yes,” he said as he choked back more laughter. “But I’ll only wear your ring on one condition.”

“What’s that?” she asked with narrowed eyes.

Gryf reached into his pocket and pulled out the most beautiful solitaire she’d ever seen.

“I’ll wear your ring only if you’ll wear mine. I had planned to propose to you tonight when I took you out for dinner.”

Lydia couldn’t help it, she giggled and then burst into full blown laughter. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she accepted his ring and kissed him with every bit of love she had for him.

“You know, the agency never did call to pair me with anyone,” she said. “But in a way, they found my match for me after all.”

He smirked. “That’s probably because I called them the next day and threatened Mr. Anderson if he dared to send another male your way. I knew from the beginning that I wanted you to be mine. You just took a little convincing.”

“Insufferable male,” she muttered, then melted against him once more.

Lydia might not know for certain what her future held, but one thing she did

know…she was going to have a beautiful daughter, an amazing husband, and she had a job that she loved. Her parents might have thought they were teaching her a lesson by throwing her out like unwanted trash, but they’d really done her a favor. If she hadn’t been desperate enough to apply to Espress Yourself two months ago, she never would have found the agency’s brochure, never would have gone to sign up, and never would have met Gryf. It just proved that fate had a plan for everyone, whether they realized it or not.
