Chapter One
“Raven, are you ready to leave yet?” Rhys’s voice filled my mind.
Now that I was Alpha of the Darken pack, I could mentally communicate with my mates, both individually and as a group. It was usually fun, but sometimes it could be a real pain in the ass. Like right now, when they were all impatient to leave for the Full Moon Party, and I was the one making us all late.
“I’ll be there in one second,” I responded, doing a once-over in the mirror. My golden blonde hair fell over my shoulders in long, loose waves, and my bright green eyes were framed heavily with black eyeliner, mascara, and the perfect purple smokey eyeshadow look. There was a pop of shimmery light pink gloss on my lips.
My lacy, sleeveless black dress dipped low in the front, showing off a perfect amount of cleavage, and it hit a few inches below my thighs. It was cinched at the waist, accentuating my curves in all the right places.
The outfit would have made any of my mates go wild.
That was the plan. I smirked at my own reflection in the mirror.
As if on cue, Theo’s voice filled my mind as he spoke to me privately. “So, what are you wearing?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I asked flirtatiously.
“How about just a little hint?” Theo asked.
“You’ll see in a few minutes.”
“Honestly, I’m more curious to know what you’re wearing underneath.”
A blush rose to my cheeks. “Well, in that case, I would much rather show you than tell you.”
“Come on, Raven. We’re going to be so late,” Colton complained, interrupting my private exchange with Theo.
“Just give me one more minute,” I insisted, glancing at myself in the mirror a final time.
As of tomorrow, it would officially be one year to the day since I had been living in the paranormal realm, and I couldn’t help but feel like I looked… different. And that was because I was different. So much had changed.
On the surface, I still looked the same. Well, sort of the same, anyway. I still looked like me, but I was a lot stronger now. My muscles were more toned, and my abs were starting to see definition. My hair was longer and shinier, and my nails were longer, too—a byproduct of the hormonal shift that had taken place within my body. Truthfully, I had never looked healthier.
But most of my changes over the past year were internal. That was why when I looked into my own eyes, I saw someone completely different.
I was a werewolf now… and not just any werewolf. I was the six-hundred-year-old princess of the ancient werewolves, the first werewolves ever known to exist. My real name was Fallyn—Princess Fallyn—even though I still saw myself as Raven Gallagher when I looked in the mirror.
I also had some major weaponry skills now. I was able to throw axes and daggers. I could shoot a bow and arrow or a silver bullet straight through someone’s heart, with one hundred percent accuracy.
Then there was also the fact that I had four mates now. Four ridiculously gorgeous mates who drove me crazy… in all the right ways. I had only met them a year ago, but now I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without even one of them.
They were my pack, and I was their Alpha. We were a family now. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
So much had changed in just one year’s time. I was anxious to see what my second school year at Werewolf Academy would bring.
“Raven, you’re taking forever,” Rhys whined.
“Girls seriously take so long to get ready,” Aiden added.
I was glad they couldn’t see that I was rolling my eyes at them. “Okay, okay. I’m coming.”
I slid into a pair of sparkly black heels and then stepped out of my bedroom. My shoes clacked as I made my way down the long hallway, descended the stairs, and entered the living room where all four of them were standing there, waiting for me.
I cleared my throat as I entered the room, and all four of them glanced over at me at once.
“Wow, you look hot as hell.” Aiden’s honey brown eyes, which popped against his short dark brown hair and deeply sun-kissed skin, moved up and down the length of my body.
“Stunning,” Colton agreed. His gray eyes poured over me, drinking me in, as he ran a hand over his longish blonde hair.
“Absolutely gorgeous,” Theo whispered. A strand of black hair fell into his bright blue eyes, which lingered over my cleavage area.
“Yeah, you look beautiful,” Rhys murmured, ruffling his auburn hair as his dark blue eyes met mine.
“Thanks, guys.” I felt my cheeks flush red. Of course, this was exactly the reaction I had been hoping to get from my mates, but I still hadn’t gotten used to being complimented by four sexy guys at once. With their good looks and extremely muscular bodies, all four of them looked like they had just stepped right out of a Hollywood movie. But here they were, all staring at me like they wanted to rip my clothes off. And while that was a mutual feeling, it didn’t make it any less overwhelming.
“Well, we should probably get going,” Theo said, his eyes still not moving away from me. “We’re going to be late.”
“Actually, we’re going to be fashionably late,” I insisted. “Arriving late makes a statement.”
“Well, that isn’t the statement we’re going for right now,” Theo replied, shaking his head. “Headmaster Black is—or was—expecting us to arrive early. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now.”
“And you’re suddenly afraid of Headmaster Black now?” I asked with raised eyebrows as I followed him out the front door, the others following close behind us.
“The Full Moon Party is the most significant event Werewolf Academy throws all year,” Aiden explained as we walked to the car. “And the professors are expected to be there on time.”
“Why?” I questioned.
Rhys’s dark blue eyes slid over to meet mine. “You’ll see onc
e we get there, Raven.”
“Okay.” I shrugged as I climbed into the car, sliding in next to Colton. Rhys sat on the other side of me. He placed his hand on my bare knee as we rode the entire way to the campus. It wasn’t far from the Darken house, which was where I had lived all summer.
The Full Moon Party marked the end of summer and the beginning of the school year. It was held two nights before classes began, the night before the Sorting Ceremony. Since I hadn’t arrived until the day of the Sorting Ceremony last year, I had missed out on the Full Moon Party.
I was seriously bummed that summer break was over. All four of my mates were going to be my professors again for my sophomore year at Werewolf Academy. Even though I didn’t want summer to end, at least I would be sitting through their classes.
I just hoped the school year would turn out to be much better than summer, which had been a huge letdown. And the worst part about it all? I hadn’t gotten to do even half the things I had planned on doing.
I’d wanted to visit Maddie (my human BFF) and Uncle Ryan in Pennsylvania, Vince in Chicago, and Iris in Georgia. Instead, I hadn’t gotten to visit any of them. And that really sucked.
It felt weird to miss out on Branden Mitchell’s annual back to school party, which would be taking place in the human world tomorrow night. This year, it would have been the last party of the summer before everyone headed off to college. Maddie would probably still go to the party without me. That made me sad. We had always gone together, ever since we were freshmen.
I wondered if Maddie was back together with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Robbie, or if they were going through yet another one of their breakups. I sighed. It felt like I was really missing out on our friendship. Did we even still have a friendship anymore? I knew nothing about her life these days, the same way she knew nothing about mine. It made me sad to think that we were practically strangers now. I didn’t know when… or if… we would ever get to see each other again.
On top of not visiting anyone in the human realm, my pack and I hadn’t traveled the world this summer like we’d originally talked about, either. There had been no cruise to the Bahamas or backpacking through Europe, no skiing in Aspen or taking selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower. In fact, we hadn’t left Wolflandia at all. We had barely even left the Darken house.
But that was okay. The things that we had actually accomplished this summer were far more important than all the things we hadn’t gotten to do.
The Darken had put me through their own personal bootcamp. I was ready now—ready to face Milos Santorini, the extremely powerful ancient werewolf who had murdered my parents.
I was ready to kill him.
“Wow, it looks even more crowded this year than previous years,” Colton commented then, snapping me out of my thoughts and back to reality.
As Werewolf Academy came into view, a knot in my stomach tightened. I’d been getting this feeling on and off all day. At first, I had chalked it up to being nervous about school starting in two days, but I was pretty sure it was something more than that.
I had this feeling, deep in my gut. This year was going to be a total game-changer.
I wasn’t sure how I knew that; I just did. And that scared me a little. The last time I’d had one of these feelings, I had ended up at Werewolf Academy, discovered I was an ancient werewolf princess, and mated to four guys.
I didn’t know what this year had in store for me, but I was prepared for whatever it was.
At least, I hoped I was.
Chapter Two
As we arrived in the courtyard where the Full Moon Party was being held, it felt like all of the other students were staring at me.
Don’t get me wrong; I had expected that showing up with not just one but four of the professors would draw some attention. I had tried not to make my relationship with the Darken obvious last year, but I didn’t see the point in hiding it anymore. I was the Alpha of the Darken now, and they were my mates. There was no sense in keeping that a secret.
Besides, the other students had already managed to put two and two together on their own last year, especially after I had barely left Theo’s side at the school infirmary after he’d been shot by a silver bullet and nearly died.
I tried not to let the stares from my peers bothered me. They could think whatever they wanted about me and my mates, but it wouldn’t change anything for the world. As far as I was concerned, most of them were probably just jealous. The Darken were absolutely gorgeous. Everyone else probably thought a professor/student relationship was taboo, but I didn’t care. We were all adults.
Ignoring everyone who watched us as we made our way through the courtyard, I turned my attention to the campus, taking it all in.
It was completely stunning. There were white and gold Christmas lights strung from the trees and buildings, and purple and blue lights casted a glow over the area. The full moon hung in the sky, casting its own beautiful glow over us.
I had never seen Werewolf Academy look more gorgeous.
There were refreshment stands set up, some serving alcohol and others serving food. A DJ was playing music on a stage at the center of the courtyard. People were dancing, and just one look at them told me that pretty much everyone who was here was already drunk. There was no minimum drinking age in Wolflandia, so we were all allowed to drink.
“This party is lit as fuck,” Colton commented quietly, just loud enough for me to hear him.
I smiled up at him proudly. Like me, my mates were six-hundred-year-old ancient werewolves. So, sometimes it was weird to think that they kept up on the modern lingo, but they made a deliberate effort to blend in with humans. It helped them not draw attention in the human realm whenever they needed to visit. Colton and Rhys seemed to struggle with it the most, so I’d been working with them on it over the summer.
“We should get some drinks,” Aiden commented, eyeing the bar closest to us.
Theo glanced over at him. “The ceremony will be happening soon.”
“And that’s exactly why I’m gonna need that drink,” Aiden said. “Raven, do you want anything?”
“Maybe later,” I replied with a shrug.
As Aiden headed over to the bar, Rhys and Colton followed after him. That left me and Theo.
I turned to him. “So, tell me about this ceremony.”
His bright blue eyes locked on mine. “You’ll see really soon.”
“You’re so secretive,” I commented.
At that moment, I heard a familiar voice say, “Raven! Hey, girl, hey!”
I turned around to find Vince waving at me. He and Iris headed over to me.
“Ohmigod, you guys!” I ran over to them and threw my arms around Vince first, and then Iris. “I’m seriously so excited you’re here.”
I glanced over at Theo. “Sorry, but I’m going to ditch you and go talk to my friends.”
He nodded at me. “Okay, I’ll talk to your later then.” I watched as he turned away from me and headed towards the rest of the pack.
“You look absolutely stunning,” Vince said, taking a step back to get a good look at me. “That whole Alpha girl of an otherwise guy pack thing looks really good on you. You’re completely glowing.”
“Thanks. You guys both look great, too.” Even under the light of the full moon, I noticed how much my friends’ appearances had changed over the summer break. Vince was now sporting burgundy hair, instead of the blue hair he’d worn last year, and a septum piercing, in addition to the eyebrow piercing he already had. Iris’s strawberry blonde hair had grown out to her shoulders, and her naturally fair skin had a slight golden glow. She must have soaked up plenty of beach time when she was back home in Savannah, Georgia.
“So, catch us up to speed. Which of the Darken have you fallen completely and hopelessly head over heels for?” Vince asked, sounding more like a celebrity gossip vlogger than one of my best friends.
I rolled my eyes, trying to suppress my smile. “Who says I’ve only fallen for one of them?
”
“So scandalous!” Vince said with a grin.
“We want all the details,” Iris said, taking a sip of her strawberry beer.
“Yeah, tell us everything,” Vince agreed, stirring a blue tropical-looking mixed drink.
I laughed. “An Alpha girl doesn’t kiss and tell.”
Of course, I knew I would probably spill all the beans later—when my entire pack wasn’t standing right across the courtyard from us.
Vince let out a deflated sigh. “Party pooper.”
“So, how did summer go for you guys?” I swiftly changed the subject.
“You know … It went. Without any visits from you.” Vince shot me a pouty look.
“I’m sorry. I wanted to visit you both, but things just got really, really busy here.” The truth was that I hadn’t really spoken much to either of them this summer, so I felt really out of touch with them. It was really hard to communicate from Wolflandia to the human world. The internet at the Darken house barely ever worked. “We were just so focused on my training.”
“It’s okay. I just missed you,” Vince replied.
“I missed you, too,” Iris added.
“My summer was pretty fun,” Vince said. “I went to so many concerts—Thirty Seconds to Mars, Billie Eilish, I Prevail, Halsey. I even got to see my hero.”
“Who’s your hero?” I asked with raised eyebrows. I was surprised I’d never heard about this sooner, but for some reason, Vince had never mentioned this so-called hero to me.
“Don’t laugh, because I know you totally wouldn’t expect this from me.” Vince leaned in close and then whispered, “Sam Smith.”
I snorted. “That actually makes a lot of sense.” I turned to Iris. “So, how was your summer?”
“It was pretty crazy. My brother Eric and I got into this huge fight, so I ended up staying with my aunt a few towns away for the summer,” Iris began. “I got a job at the local record store—”
“Which tells you everything you need to know about her summer,” Vince intercepted. “What town actually still has a record store?”
Iris giggled. “It’s actually a pretty cool place. And there was this guy Matt who worked there with me, who I may or may not have lost my virginity to.” A rosy blush blossomed on each of her cheeks.
