“It must be the paramedics. I didn’t think they would get here this fast.”
“You called 9-1-1?”
“I shouldn’t have to remind you that you do bleed a lot.”
“Well, tell them to go away.”
“You probably should get an x-ray. If you can’t stand up, it usually means you broke something.”
“I would have liked to stick around a while and see where this would go.”
“Me too, but I’m sure I will see you again soon. We are neighbors.” Dave answered the door, letting in a swarm of EMT workers. “He’s in here.”
The Emergency response team worked quickly and efficiently assessing his injuries, and came to the same conclusion Dave had. He probably had a break in his leg and it would need to be set. Perhaps operated on if he broke both bones in his leg, but only a trip to the hospital for an x-ray would tell for sure.
They Woody into the stretcher, and applied a neck brace in case of spinal injuries that he knew he didn’t have.
Before the doors to the ambulance closed Dave said, “I’m going to meet you at the hospital but after it’s all over I don’t want you to be a stranger. There’s no going back to friendly waving, now.”
“I agree. Friendly fucking is much better,” Woody joked trying to take away some of the seriousness out of the last comment.
Dave laughed softly, before the doors to the ambulance closed. “I won’t even make you jump in front of a tree next time you want to come see me.”

ANGEL IN THE BARN
By Shabbu
Take the inventiveness and playfulness—and respect for the trade of fiction writing—of two different writers, Sabb on the East Coast of Australia, and habu on the East Coast of the United States. Drop between them the unlikely image of an angel appearing in the window of a barn, with a key phrase to be used by both. Then toss in the bomb that they each are to write a gay male story that has to deal with an unsuccessful suicide attempt—and can have the ending of the author’s choice—and, of course, must drip with hot male-male sex. Send the dueling writers to their separate corners with the assignment to turn up the next day with a fully developed story. Do all of this and Angels in the Barn is one version of what you get.
Dark Angel Review from Frost: 4/5 Angels
Not one female enters the story at any point, and the male/male sexuality is rife and scorching. The difference in the approaches and conclusions of the two authors is intriguing.
Warning: This title contains graphic language and m/m sex.
Excerpt From ANGEL IN THE BARN:
“I came at it from the rear, seeing the high window lit with the full afternoon sun, and I saw him there caught in the sun, naked and golden, like some lost angel. Perched up there on the windowsill with his arms spread wide hanging on to the frame. He is the reason I remember the barn so well.”
