Alive
the images hung in mid-air
frozen
suspended
stuck somewhere between thought and execution
like a treasured landscape from eons long past and thought forgotten
flashing in glimpses, sparking your neurons
and for a brief moment you feel the laughter brim
in that harbor that was once your heart,
love abounds
and you are there as time stops,
on days like these when whispers remember
daffodils scream and butterflies curse...

Oblivion
I hear her name
and a piece of my soul breaks away
and drifts into oblivion
I recall her face
and a twinge in my heart
sinks deep and takes root
I feel the one kiss
that sustained me as water
to a dying plant
Time can be cruel
it never forgets
true love

Enamored
you move me
more than mere words on a page
more than any other
profoundly so
I am thunderstruck
stirring me in ways
I've only dared to imagine
each lingering caress
leaves me wanting more
so enamored, I've become...

Of My Decline
a whispered cry
a strained goodbye
vision from a crooked eye
once pure as Sunset
on mountains high
no longer seeks
this moonlit sky
a love now bleached
in wistful sighs
and unsure whys
the foggy mist
of my decline
© 2008/ T. Owen Stark
Random Meanderings
memories swarm.
They speak as one
person. Each one loves you
each one has left something
undone
the way a lost
lover
will come back,
unbidden.
You're not interested
in him now
only
in knowing
where he's been
followed by the eyes
of an invisible
third person...

I'm Sorry
I'm sorry for the things I've said
I'm sorry for the words that bled
unrelenting
from your severed heart
it is a curse that I must bear
I speak without a whim or care
I think not of my love's despair
only that it will survive
for it is love
like claws they work to rip and tear
until your love
succumbs
and there
you awaken
and I can only say...
I'm sorry

Like Always
you speak of her
and I could just spit.
though I say nothing
stare straight ahead
like always,
with this stoicism I learned from the best
inwardly thinking
how dare you!
you bastard
you haven't a clue, or do you?
realizing it's a crap shoot
I've got nothing to lose
no where to go,
nothing to do
and we find ourselves amused
like always,
we skate around the elephant in the room
nothing new
with something like ice cubes on crocodile sticks

Sad Cliches
belittled into submission
lost in darkness
the basement of my thoughts
a busted knuckle trying to heal
forgotten tears stolen by sand
along the beach of lost dreams
and unwatched sunsets
did you forget about me
sad cliches meet here
outside the realm of hope
waiting like wolves
to take their breath away

Reverse
the angle of the outburst was of particular interest
sudden.
sharp.
thrusting upward and then turning around
blasting through unexpected and unannounced fields
butterflies wrangled for breakfast and cheese
walking back to my seat, I fell down
letters for lunch
choices for a lifetime
no one tells you they could be the wrong ones
would you have listened
would you have dared?
curious, I looked back and wondered
the I-9 went south and not west as I recall
candy was sweet
roses were red after all...

Whisper
I whisper your name
over miles
built on nights
built on hope
then to the dreams
guilty relapses
into your arms
into your heart
I awaken to the mundane
the truth
penance for
my assumptions
my thoughtless deeds
if only I knew that a glimpse
of me
passes your thoughts before you sleep
even if it be as rare as the Sun eclipsed
my heart could rest

Summons
last night, we met as before
during the second summons of our winter sun
beneath the moonless canopy
in the designated season
where dreams live and breathe.
we had to race
far from the chatter of listening ears
or views from curious eyes
we sat and shared as we pressed our way
shadows cared and watched above
there is this place if
you believe
where we can be
undisturbed and quiet, dear
come with me and dream
we will remember
and live again
the space between the imaginings …

Masquerade
I have loved you these many years
as I love you now
as we sit quietly
dancing along the guise of friendship
the stares that linger a second longer
than a friend's stare should
the soft laughter
that muffles the cry of a yearning heart
the torture
I fear
of knowing I'll never have you
may not equal
the torture
of never sharing a smile
daring a whisper
or chasing a dream

January Jones
we met in September under cloudy chances
rolled out in May on a coconut stick
the length of October you remained
while others looked away
thoughts from my head
bleed through these fingers
and onto the page
coming alive in a dream
you are here
we scrambled for days and nights and back again
time stood still while we,
oblivious to all
continued in spite of the pain
November came
it wasn't enough to know
untouched is how we left it
unspoken
if I could rewind
return to another time
knowing what I do
I would still choose you
it never changes around the outside
how the sun scorches red and blue
laughter is bare around angry hearts
time stood still
while we,
oblivious to all
refrained
when there was no reason to
December blue
and yet
who's to say it was the right thing
who's to say it was wrong?
all I know is that we were there
all along
on a very dark side
back to the phones

Embers
I will find
in the distance of a lost love's thought
some semblance of warmth
some piece of a dream past
some hope that it may rise again
from the embers
of a once blazing heart
© 2008/ T. Owen Stark
Night Birds
there are a thousand things I'd love to say if I could
a million take backs, if only
I could have changed
the indifferent turns and constant yearning
in the middle of the night when birds dream.
It never stops
not for me, at least
if I could have one wish above all wishes,
it would be
you,
only you
always you.
but you'll never hear those words from me
not out loud from these lips,
I want what isn't mine
and in this lonely room,
I scream...

Dreamers
we are but dreamers
you and I
we search for love
yet turn an eye
away from lovers
kind of heart
it is our fear
to play the part
our souls burn bright
yet we are cold
the more we love
the less our hold
on those equipped
to share our tears
yet bring to life
our deepest fears
remember in your dream tonight
imagine one who sees your light
believe it true
I know you're there
bring to me the dream we share
© 2009/ T. Owen Stark
Who Knew
I remember your smile like a soft, summer's kiss
and how the sun favored laughter that year,
serenade of sweet seduction surrounding my senses
everything flowed through a song,
we heard on the radio, late
as we lay there together
certain we'd go on forever,
who knew forever had flaws?
© 2006/ alisajs
Graceful Mistake
fire spark of lover's new
sweat and hazy moan engulf the air
gripping sheets and bending pillows
moonlight streaks on wet windows
energy reaches the dream state
then disappears through the keyhole
and there is nothing more than silence
before the quiet escape
and the unspoken acceptance
of this graceful mistake
© 2011/ T. Owen Stark
Winter Cues
it is winter, dear
deep and high
full of cold hearted breaks
for no other reason than
silence.
as steps are found, making their way
leaving town
if I say I loved you
would that roll away, too?
crumpled here inside myself
reeling like a two-bit fool
tossed around
why does this feel so cruel
maybe there is no right or wrong
it is what it is
my life,
your choice
left to ourselves,
no dry eyes...
